what does /g/ thinks of these? are these secure as they say or are they botnet?
Botnet so far. May be removed i the future but seems unlikely.

cia botnet

Why is it a botnet? Elaborate.
>>59496306
Still uses binary blobs for hardware initialization.
They have deactivated (not removed) ME not so long ago.
So if they work out hardware initialization, it would be great cause you would free hardware which isn't 9 years old.
But from what I read it is unlikely to reserve engineer it.

Would this mean that every new laptop/computer is a botnet?
>>59496952
Yes.
>>59496952
Yes. x86 architecture is proprietary and is impossible to create a libre system.
>>59496952
yes every computer using a x86 chip after 2008/2009.
don't know about arm but I guess the use binary blobs, too.
>>59496952
unless someone makes open source hardware with schemas/fabs/blueprints fully exposed

Its a completely normal laptop with linux preinstalled.
>>59497162
they don't market it as a normal laptop, but as a laptop which uses free hardware.
>>59497205
>Pays for it
>It's free goy
>>59497241
I would consider paying for it, if they keep their promise to remove all blobs.
>>59497315
also if they do succeed to remove all blobs on Skylake/Broadwell architectures, this maybe could be applied to other laptops.

>that price
No thanks.
The way forward is for some midsize company to get an arm license and come out with a chip that is explicitly designed to be blob free.
An alternative would be an independent audit authority that could inspect blobs for fuckery, but we'd have to trust them to truly be representing us.
