Depends on location, for example I work on NY. More office buildings, more systems to be programmed. My friends company just made his a field tech. He just goes around and programs. He's about 56K a year.

Get a cert(A+ or any crap) and apply. Also look at you tube videos. It has helped me a lot. Then lie on your interview.
