senpai I just bought an old LGA775 based computer I will turn into a home server
what OS should I use? I run Xubuntu on my thinkpads and it probably works for this as well, but is there some distro that works better for home server use? I know Debian is more stable but my intention is to just have a torrent client run on the computer 24/7. so it's more like a network storage system. I could do more with it but with a core 2 duo 6750 there's not really much more it can handle
Any distro will do.
I'd use the Debian or Ubuntu server variants but only because I'm used to them.

dude you could get like one of those j335 boards and a stick of DDR3 and have something modern that's way faster and sucks less power
45nm and older is dead bro
Like anon said, do the math on the power consumption, running 24/7 a nice low power setup pays for it self faster then you think

I don't care about the power bills, I just want it to be up 24/7
right now I've been keeping my big rig on 24/7 and I haven't even noticed it in the power bills. I don't want to dump $200 on some home server rig when I can get the same functionality with $20
