For some reason whenever I hit the power button my Arch machine only has a 40ish% of actually booting. Sometimes when I get unlucky I have to turn it on and off like 5 times before it eventually works.

I just leave it on 24/7 when I can now.

I have on off used Linux for 4 years and love it. Learned basics of through the troubleshooting that comes with ricing window managers. Love it.

But damn it, I have never figured out how to rebind my power button on my laptop so it does not immediately shut down my pc in awesome-wm.

i once almost filled my 1tb harddrive with cute anime girl pics. deleting them was the most painful thing i have done to myself. i can still probably recover them back though, i partitioned my hdd and now around 700gb are unused, one day i will photorec them back to existence.
>>
There's a short somewhere in my computer, so that when I plug in a USB anything, there's like a 30% chance it will cut power. I always have to ground myself to something metal first. I should look into the matter, but instead I just rely on network storage, and pretend I don't have any USB ports available

PSU is outside the case, literally hanging there. I have a bigger case that is a better fit but I didn't buy a 2.5 inch slot thingy for it, so the system drive just hangs there and I don't like it. I also once tried to hot-plug my 1TB HDD while it was disabled and fucking fucked the file system. I recovered some but I still regret it.

When I put my computer to sleep there's a 50% chance the monitor will not turn on again when I wake it.

When I shut my computer down there is a 5% chance there is no picture when I start it again and I need to cut power.

I never managed to connect the front USB3.0 to my motherboard.

I bought an 100$+ Asus Essence STX soundcard for 250Ohm headphones which even my Macbook has no problems with it.

I once clicked "cancel" during a Bios update, bricked my motherboard and had to pay 30$ to MSI for them to replace the chip.
>>
The past 4 gigabyte motherboards I have bought are unstable and will not reboot or boot, uptime of >24 hours is rare, and windows update restarts are garuanteed to put me into a reboot lockout of my PC until I cycle the power and save the bios for whatever reason, even though it keeps settings. What's more is my closed loop GPU cooler, requires many taps before it's pump will function, thanks evga

I've had this machine 4 years and I've never figured out how to get the UEFI to boot GRUB off an internal hard drive. The process for adding the Debian entry to the UEFI boot menu worked once, a couple years ago, and kept working for months. Then I upgraded GRUB and it broke again. Every other attempt to add that boot entry before and since has resulted in the boot entry being erased at the next reboot.

I've been booting this machine off a GRUB installation on a flash drive or my phone for almost its entire lifespan.

My motherboard has been going full retard for a month now. Sometimes it turns back on after I turn it off (???) or suddenly shutdown and (sometimes) restart during early boot. What is kind off odd is that once windows is ready after like the 5th try or so I see 0 instability issues or BSOD you would expect from faulty hardware.

I use an old Alienware laptop from 2014. It has heating issues and the keyboard has several missing keys.

I don't use it as a laptop, I plug in all the peripherals and just pretend it's a desktop.

Despite its age I keep upgrading the components. SSD. Removed optical drive for a HDD. Ram. Anew LCD display with a higher resolution. CPU repasted. Might just upgrade the CPU.

I've been wanting to build a legit desktop but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I customize the lit keyboard that I don't use.

The phone I use is a galaxy core primeâ„¢ that takes a good 10 seconds to load the default messaging app.

Never learned how to overclock properly, OC'ed my CPU with a preset BIOS profile instead of manually and set it to auto voltage adjustment. Couldn't be fucked to test it for long-term stability but it has run fine for 2yrs+ without crashing so I assume its ok. Temps are well within normal ranges.
Also I couldn't verify if i got the power management settings right so i turned them all off and it just runs at full OC frequency continuously.

On completely random occasions when my machine boots it runs for about 5 seconds with no display output, then shuts off and starts up again a few seconds later but runs as normal this time. I have no idea why it does this, but it did it since the first day I built it and long before I OC'ed the CPU, so not sure if its related to what I described above.

Sometimes my computer freezes when its locked.

I replaced the 120mm fan on my CPU's heatsink with a noctua. It was originally attached with some rubber shit, but I wasn't able to get it out, so I just snipped it out and replaced it with screws. >Is it time consuming to reflash the bios?
Yes, you need a spi flasher, and the correct clips for the chip to connect,
you may even have to solder.

>How does the virus get in so deep?
Someone probably found exploits in the gpu drivers which
give access to overwriting the bios chip through software.
But nvidia wouldn't let the average filthy goyim mod their bios through software,
so for you to fix it you have to do it physically with an spi-flasher.

>What if you wanna play 3D current gen games?
Then you are a loser and will remain as such.
I told you, either buy the games legit,
or if your such a poorfag who likes to get their computer cucked by virus publishers on piratebay,
go setup a qemu emulation with pci passthrough on linux and run all your windows shit there.
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/PCI_passthrough

>Does the virus bitcoin mine constantly leading the pc to crash when overclocked?
These GPU roolkits are really obscure so not much is known about them,
but It's the only possible explaination for your overclocking bug.
It could be the virus is just a test for some hacker to fuck over a gpu,
or it could be bitcoin mining, or it could be password hash cracking.
It's extremely difficult to detect these rootkits because even with a memory dump,
there's no significant database for GPU virus signitures.

I'm done spoonfeeding newfags, do something or fuck off.

In this case, the whole building ground was shit. One would get zapped just by touching the elevator button. (That goddamn elevator...) At 7AM it would even spark in the dark.

His solution was to zap the table legs, that were metallic, before touching anything.

Because of living in that building for 4 years, getting zapped with everything, I have this vice in which I touch every door knob with the forehand before trying to open the door, but try to escape the zap by pulling my hand real fast.
I usually have to try 2 or 3 times before actually touching the door and discharge myself.

The way it looks from outside, is just me nervously hitting the door knob several times before opening the door, like a cat.
Some people at work have noticed this. They didn't dare/care enough to comment, but you can tell by their faces.

I bought an external 3.5" floppy drive so I could play some DOS-era games I still have.

Most of the HDDs I run in my machines are from 'dead' externals I've acquired over the years. Extract the drive from the encolosure and most actually work.

My flatmates sometimes lose their shit about this laptop. But I tell them about my freedoms and they run away.

This is not my main computer. I bought this as an experiment of a life in complete freedom. It's being fun, but very often not practical. It makes up for a great shitposting machine though. Very comfortable. (I'm on the bed with it right now)

I also accidentally learned a lot of shit about how linux works by fixing shit that it's never ever broken in a normal setup, so at work, when shit hits the fan with the servers, people actually ask me just in case I could know something, despite being the mechanical engineer.

>2 dead pixels on 5 year old Korean QHD IPS
>bajillion cables in a mess under desk (usually just kick them out of the way)
>case rattles from pump/fan vibrations (placed heavy paperweights on top to reduce vibration)
>still have to kick case from time to time to stop vibrations
>case cable management behind mobo is also a mess; cables cause panel to bulge
>GPU is ancient (gtx670)
>Still haven't calibrated speakers since I don't feel like spending $50 on a mic
>Audio interface makes it impossible to change digital volume (I only had it mapped to 100, 50, or 0) but too lazy to find windows registry hack to enable it as well as having to redo the hack after every update

For some reason if i leave my PC on the login page too long and then login, it will log me into a temporary user profile. It can only be fixed with a restart.

My computer randomly BSODs sometimes for seemingly no reason.

I still have my stock CPU cooler and it runs at about 80° under load.

Theres some memory error whenever i try to shut down. I have to press okay before it will shut down. I often forget and wake up to my pc still on.

I have a glass desk and a wireless mouse. Sometimes the mouse's signal gets blocked by the metal support for the glass.

Whenever my Ubuntu laptop boots, two "system problem detected" messages pop up.

I bought an M.2 SSD but my motherboard nor my processor support it so I got a M.2 to Pcie adapter but i realized i didnt have a spare pcie slot. I ended up with a M.2 to Sata adapter. But its in a 2.5" cradle and I dont have a slot for it. So its currently duck taped to the inside of one of the 5.25" drive bays.

My cases front headphone and Mic ports dont work but it doesnt mater because my speakers have one. Im currenly using a webcam as my mic. If i plug in anything into my cases my PC instantly dies.

I also have a usb wifi adapter, but now i have gigabit wired as well.

Yes.

Parabola has this "your-freedom" package, that conflicts with everything the FSF considers nonfree. (not absolutely and utterly free).

With every update, the "conflicts" list of this package gets bigger, and sometimes it gets to conflict with things you used to use frequently.

>Because they don't like chromium now, I use Iridium browser, which falls behind 3 versions by now.
>With the chromium web engine blacklisted, also electron and qt5-webengine were blacklisted. And with them, my IDE of preference, Atom, and my 3d printing slicer of preference, Cura.

Updates really feel like "let's see what's going to be the next thing that will turn nonfree, and won't be able to use anymore". I'm a switcher so I take this as a chance to know new things, but goddamn.
I have the Cura .AppImage in a folder and I still use it, uninstalled
since I was too fucking poor to get a new computer, I bought a random video card at best buy for 40 bucks to put in my pentium 4 tower. It made the tower twice as loud and I'm not even sure if it sped up anything. I thought it was going to double the performance or something. I convinced myself I made a good purchase. To this day I wonder if I have to 'activate' it or something.

Pure memery.
I used to keep a stack of dead WD drives next to my perfectly functional 22 year old seagate drive before I gutted them for the magnets. Even now I've been running a 1.5T seagate for over 7 years continuously with no problems.
I did have one newer seagate die after only 2 years though.

TL;DR: pretty much all the brands have similar failure rates, and it's just memespouting if someone tells you you're fucked because your drive is a particular brand.

I keep telling myself I will organize my home directory, but I haven't done anything since 2014, and I recently migrated my old windows hard drives dating back to 2005 to my new computer and they are just folders inside of folders. I have over 8TB of data and I its pretty much never been organized and it keeps piling up to the point where even thinking about organizing it I get anxious.
If I want to find anything I just use locate and grep.

I have some of the worst cable management I've ever seen, it looks like fucking spaghetti, and when the cables rub on the CPU fan, I just sort of jostle the case until the cables are away from the fan. I keep telling myself I'll clean them up and reroute them, but I never do.

Cable management is a meme. It makes it much harder to service when you need to
As long as the cables aren't getting crushed or eaten by the fan (Like in your case) then its fine

Yeah the handbook helped me get it working easily enough, but I had trouble getting it to work with EFI and encrypting the hard drive. The guide I'm following was also easy enough, but there's a part where I have to use the guy's overlay and install his script to build the kernel and generate the initramfs and I can't get it to work without that. Even looking at the script's source and manually doing what I believe it's doing I'm still missing some magic or knowledge somewhere. I'll probably just give up and install the system I get from the handbook if this doesn't work by friday.

I have to go into bios and then restart from there every time I boot my system up otherwise it says it can't find bootable media (or something like that IIRC). I'm fairly sure I know how to fix it, since I looked it up and it has something to do with installing windows when you have multiple drives connected. There's maybe backup files on my hard drive but because the OS is on my SSD it starts up before the harddrive and can't find those files or some garbage like that. I said to myself I'd fix it the same week I originally built my rig and now it's like 2 years later and I still can't be bothered. I've even got a new case and transferred everything over to it, so I've got literally no excuse for never just disconnecting the HDD real quick and repairing windows with just the SSD plugged in.
