is it actually worth buying a laptop with a solid state drive? i need something that boots up quickly for college so would something like a thinkpad x230 with an ssd do the job? i'm tired of my current laptop with a shit processor and spinning hard drive.
SSDs turn laptops into really great things.

Solus boots up in just under 20S on my HDD (laptop).
Roughly same speed as w10 on my mx100 ssd on desktop.
You don't need an SSD for fast boot times, Just a good OS.
Once you go SSD you never go back

Can confirm its amazing! Couldn't have found a better deal.

i saw an x230 with an ssd and 4gb ram for £204, i think i might pull the trigger on it and get myself some extra ram and an extended battery for it

Another big disadvantage of HDD for laptops is that they can break because of vibration. Also you do not necessarily need to buy one with an ssd, you can buy SSD separatly and replace the HDD.
Have x230 with ssd for a few years. Boots within ten seconds.
I think so, I get like <10s boot times, from turning on to being logged in on my desktop. It would probably be close to 20 or 30s without an SSD. I also get next to loading times on my games.
If you never turn your computer off and dont play games a larger HDD probably makes more sense since they're cheaper, but SSD's have gone way down in price in the last year or so. I will never build a computer without an SSD primary drive ever again
It's definitely worth it.
It's one of the best and easiest upgrades for any computer but especially a laptop.
Dramatically increased load speeds.
Longer battery life.
Not prone to damage from getting bumped around.
Makes grabbing the laptop for something nearly as fast as grabbing a tablet, and it isn't a faggot tablet.
