This gif isn't accurate though. If you compare 16:9 to 16:10 you'll notice that instead of having less horizontal space 16:10 has just more vertical space. If you got the same horizontal resolution on both you should see more on strategy games. For example, on 1920x1200 you got more vertical space but not less horizontal space than on 1920x1080.

Compare the two. You'll notice that the 16:10 one has a smaller horizontal resolution than the 16:9 image. I specifically compared 1920x1080 with 1920x1200 though. And even if, in some game, the horizontal FOV is smaller on a 16:10 screen it should be adjustable. If FOV isn't adjustable a game should be avoided anyways. Standard FOV is almost always too small.
