In the attached pic are three files -
17-kills... is the original, at 1.4 gigs
combined.mkv is the vid reformatted with x265/HVEC, mixed with an ogg file
combined-vp9.mkv is the same video, but instead of compressing the 1.4 gigs with hvec, I used vp9

So in this scenario, vp9 did about 3x better than HVEC, and it also compressed the file less than a 14th of the size of the original.

VP9 is inferior to H.265 on quality wise.
