Any configuration can be considered "no-bullshit".
However the most important thing about your setup is that you don't change it. As long as you keep that in mind, anything will work.

But if you really want to start a fresh config, here's what you should try:
1. Figure out which applications are absolutely essential for what you're trying to do with your computer. (Text editor, browser, mail client, ...)
2. Remove anything else.
3. Install any of the mainstream environments like Xfce, Gnome, Kde, Mate. Doesn't really matter which.
4. Don't bother with eye candy. Don't install new icons or new themes. Don't define new key bindings. Stick with the default settings on everything.

Don't tinker with your configuration unless something actually doesn't work. Getting used to your setup is the most important part. That's why you won't need tiling wm's. You already have a wm that works. Don't change it just because you think something looks cool and you want to try it.
Being accustomed to your setup is the key to being efficient with it. Any small change will interfere with that.

Most developers who call themselves productive are the ones who have their config nailed down. Some may write scripts to automate anything that gets in the way, although that is at your discretion. Less time fucking with your machine = more time to get shit done
