>linux users think they're tech-literate
kek
Linux isn't even fully opensource or BSD integrated.
>installs linux
>then goes on to install proprietary drivers and firmware
What's the point?

>installs linux
>can't do anything because linux is not an operating system unto itself

What did he mean by this?

He made the word up.
>>59439471
>Linux isn't even fully opensource
What is Linux-libre?
>BSD integrated
Why are you shilling for CuckLicenseNoDriversOS?
>>59439526
That's not what deprecated means. I can do plenty of cool things with deprecated operating systems.
>>59439471
>BSD integrated
Linux uses CUPS for printing. CUPS was written by Apple, so yes, BSD is integrated in Linux.
>>59439479
b-better p-p-performance because I am u-using integrated graphics in my HTPC.

Even more importantly

>>59439763
x86 isn't proprietary
>>59439698
>CUPS was written by Apple
No
The sourcecode, company, and developer behind it were bought out by Apple to stop the license from changing to GPLv3

its free software as in free beer.

Then why can't companies that aren't AMD, Intel, or Via make x86 CPUs?
>>59439625
>linux users aren't even fully knowledgeable either
>>59440060
Because they don't have the resources.
>>59440082
No, it's because the owners of x86 and it's various extensions would sue the crap out of them.
>>59439763
Wrong.
>>59440060
They can. The reason why all those companies do it in the first place is because it's open.
>>59440166
Wrong, the patent for x86 expired decades ago. That's why AMD started making x86 CPUs idiot.
>>59440076
Who are you quoting?
>>59440166
Then why doesn't AMD sue Intel for using an architecture they introduced?
>>59439471
Linux has no games, enjoy dying of diabetes you fat fucks
>>59439471
>Linux isn't even fully opensource or BSD integrated.
Do you have mental illness?
>>59440242
Dude, five seconds on Google would have saved you a lot of embarrassment. Only some of the parents related to x86 have expired, you can't build an x86 CPU without getting sued by Intel/AMD/Via.
>>59440312
Because they license it to each other.
>>59440386
IIRC Intel still holds the patent on modern x86 and licenses it to AMD, AMD wrote the original 64-bit extension for x86 (x86-64) and licenses it to Intel so they have a sort of weird mutual license lock. VIA on the other hand actually reverse engineered x86 (and later x86-64) for their chips and Intel tried to sue them for it but the court said that it was okay because VIA had implemented it themselves without using copyright material.
>>59440474
No, Via got it's x86 licence by acquiring another company that already had an x86 license.
>>59440474
What are VIA's chips actually used for?
>>59440312
Because it's a cross licensing thing
nobody knows the exact details of it though

lost

a fork of linux, not linux
>>59440502
Just looked it up, you're right, VIA got its license from aquiring cyrix. Some faggot on /g/ lied to me a couple years back apparently.
