I'm getting a dual AAS in both computer security systems and network management. Every now and then I look at job offers on monster, indeed, etc. and they all say a bachelor's and 4 years experience is required, as well as some specific specializations.
I keep thinking I might be making a mistake but for a technical field I just saw no reason to spend 4 years and a lot of money for 4 years worth of study. Should I continue what I'm doing and get my compTIA certs? Is there anybody here that has had relative success without a bachelor's?
I only have an A+ here. Been looking for a year now.
All entry level want a degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
We are fucked senpai.

Holy shit, job searching for a whole year! Are you willing to relocate? I personally am, and I hope that would help me but damn, that isn't what I wanted to hear.
I had zero experience and pretty much walked into a job when I graduated with Information Systems, not even a technical degree but a business degree and I don't even use it, it's a 100% technical job. I guess it all depends on your area and demand, I'm in Atlanta and there is a massive market for tech jobs here.

I guess I just have to be willing to relocate. If I may ask, how did you find your job? college career services? online? was referred by a friend?
Can anybody else share their experiences? I'm in the same tight spot as OP and I learned nothing from this thread.
Dont call yourself a security professional, you're glorified IT. Bragging about certs makes you look like a retard to anyone actually competent.

I'm not bragging, I don't even have those certs yet. I'm going to get them because they would look good on my resume. I don't really care what to call myself, just care about a job.
I'm kinda in the same boat. I've got my A+/Net+/and a few other certs. I'm a certified Windows Sys Admin (earning all those certs weren't cheap either, did it over period of 10 yrs). My problem is that I'm a gov state employee with 12 yrs of time in. I've been trying and trying to move on up into IT (My current job is in a totality diff field, but at the time i needed a job real bad so I took the first offer i got) however during these 12 yrs the higher ups (bean counters/governor/someone like that) decided it would be cheaper to hire outside contractors to do IT work. So any state IT jobs are hard to get (either someone already there in line for it or they already got a name picked) or the IT job is management type (which I don't wanna be). So I'm faced with the possibility of hanging on for 8 more years and retire with 20 yrs of service and get full medical/partial retirement benefits (gotta do 27 yrs to get full payout) and become a contractor to wind up coming right back where I was only in IT.
