How fast does your router boot up? Mine takes up about 8 minutes from turning it on to actually transmitting internet/wifi.
Was thinking if this was normal for a new router.
>pic related, my router
>plug in

this desu
EIGHT fucking minutes?
My Apple router starts up in 1-2 minutes. What the fuck does your router have to do to take longer than a standard desktop PC?

My shitty old TP-Link literally did this, but it had shit distance and speed. I bought a new one but just have to wait for this every time it boots...

No idea. Probably sending my data to NSA and CIA or some shit.
>>59434007
What's the best router /g/?
>>59434038
TP-LINK's servers are more used than Apple's so it takes longer for it to phone home.
It sounds like you guys cheap out in routers. Why do this? Read reviews and save for a good router. Fuck.

Hello there Mr. Trips, what router is good then? Which is best?
>>59434111
I was just buying a goddamn router. It wasn't that cheap, either. How bad can they fuck up routers?
>>59434158
File a complaint, request it changed or your money back man, that's not normal.
>>59434173
Oh alright, good to know. Do you have a suggestion for a router that actually works? Don't want to trip on the same rake.
>>59434158
Real bad. My elderly mom bought a cheapo Belkin that dropped connections randomly right out of the box and wouldn't accept more than two devices no matter what I did to it. There's a huge difference in quality between sub 50 dollar routers and anything above that ime.

I don't know about the US but in the UK it's common to get given shitty router-modem bundles and they are fucking aweful. My last one dropped out all the fucking time and the software on it was terrible.
It had 5 100Mb ports if i remember correctly which shows the quality. Seriously who can't afford Gb ports at this point. Oh and it came with "remote support" enabled by default, which was nice.
>using a router instead of dedicated devices like firewall, switch, wifi access points, and so on
>>59434007
My intel nuc takes 3 seconds to boot up.
And the NUC is the router/firewall.

I have an Archer VR900, looks just like your pic. Only takes 1 minute at most to fully boot. RMA it.
My ubiquity APs take about 15 seconds after power on to start broadcasting. Router (with the unifi controller) takes about 45 seconds. Modem will take up to two minutes.

just install OpenWrt on it and walk it off
