speech recognition doesn't seem to actually solve that problem because you can't use it in public or when there is any noise
I suspect the swype touchscreen keybooard technology will evolve to a point where it might actually compare to a keyboard.

A mouse has more precision and speed than touch will ever have and honestly it sucks, selecting text is such a chore and doing anything productive is a hassle with touch.

Oh, so we only haven't the single most import use for PCs. No problem. Swype is useless because it'll never be able to know when I meant "if" vs "of", and a hundred other clusters or small, similar words. Also interfaces have to be designed to tolerate gross imprecision, because touch is sloppy compared to mice.

I think it's because we're using touch for tasks designed for mice and keyboard, look at normal games vs vr games, they have very different design and those that just port old UIs and design onto a different system don't work and make the new technology seem bad but it's because we haven't found good design for new tech yet.
