Or, you could "rent" one from whatever big box retailer is closest.
Borrow one from a friend, etc.

You could have done any of those and had "a monitor" right then, and still got your replacement screen in the mail.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20.
Having a backup monitor is never a bad idea btw.
