I just woke up one morning and went to turn off my alarm. What do you know, the touch screen is fucked. I had some replacement parts and I tried to replace the display, and it didn't work. My carrier (Sprint at the time) kept fucking up my bills so I cancelled and went with AT&T and bought a Note 5. This phone is also a piece of shit. I'm going to get an S3 or something cheap and just flash Lineage OS. I have plenty of money in my wallet but no one is offering phones that are supported in Lineage OS with removable batteries and SD slots. Smartphones are getting worse.

I've been using a Galaxy S5 for 10-18 hours a day for the past three years and the device still runs as well as it did when I first purchased it. I may upgrade to the S8 when it comes out, but that would be for luxury, not out of necessity.

V20 has started getting lineage os support but only for the at&t variant I think. But generally yeah carriers are too eager to put bloat on your phone to make a quick buck.

You should install nova and disable animations on your Note 5 until you upgrade to something better. It helped my J7 stop lagging anyway.

I already have Nova Prime. The phone isn't unusable but it's bad enough that it's only being used for calls, texts, and music right now. Pretty laggy experience. The battery life is also crap, even with all of the battery eating apps disabled. LG v20 would be ok I guess but I want MicroUSB because everything in my house uses it already. There's also the problem of LG and boot loops from the lead free solder.
