I have a jap-only Seiko that has the day and date. It looks like a datejust kinda.

I have a Orient dive watch that's the USA special. I got it in blue, and dig it.

I *want* a datejust, but can't decide if I should get 36mm for my girlish wrists and lower price, or the datejust II for modern look. I can't afford the datejust 41 and I don't like two tone on me anyway.

The subject brings up concerns about whether a datejust is too dresssy for the clothes I wear on the daily, which are something around chinos and polo shirts.

I just like that fucking watch, tho

the datejust is a dressy sports watch. get one with an Oyster bracelet if you are worried about it looking dressy, or a distressed leather strap. You can also get a smooth bezel if it makes it seem more casual to you

36mm is the definative size of a datejust, don't get a gigantic fuck watch just because that has been the style

Guessing from your reactions I'm right then. Working class people don't wear watches at all, let alone obscure brand divers watches, too busy spunking their money on baby clothes for their multiple offspring. For anyone who would actually spend more than £100 on a watch (aside from footballers or whatever) something that chunky would completely stick out as lacking any sort of subtlety and look like an impulsive teenager trying to stand out too hard.
>>
>>59397744
>something that chunky
Most divers are around 40mm. Close up internet pictures are skewing your perception
>>
>>59397793
It's the proportions that make it look that way, the huge size of the bezel and hands compared to the dial, however small the actual diameter.
>>
How do the grand seiko divers compare to other swiss divers at that price range?

>>59395871
fuck off ninefag
>>
>>59397844
The large bezel makes the dial smaller which makes it wear smaller. Have you ever even seen one in real life or have you just been too busy being so classy and cultured?
>>
>>59397518
I already won this exact same watch on another bid. Even though this is in better condition, what am I going to do with two of the exact same watches?

Just go and bid on it m8, it has the same movement as in Martin Sheen's Seiko, only day-date instead of date. It also hacks.
>>
>>59397580

It's the best case if you are bitchwristed like me. Pic related is my franken Amphibirskie "50 slavthoms" Ukrainian special with the 420 case.

That scuba dude dial is nice and much better than the black version, I also got one myself but with the ministry case. Nevertheless it's pretty boring looking if you compare it to the older version which had some kind of sunburst effect. I've even been thinking about getting an old blue dial for my Amphibia.

That's going to look a little big to be honest, it depends on how tall you are.

If you're short it'll look cute I suppose.

My girlfriend is average height and she wears a tiny watch.
>>
>>59403141
If I were to get a special edition 103, I'd get the blue panda dial one. That watch is way too thick for me though (and the thickness is all actual case height not crystal). If you don't mind going through a bidding service, and giving up any chance of return, look up Japanese Y! Auctions. The Japs love Sinns, and there are a ton of Japan-only special editions. The 2nd hand market is quite large (and often better priced).

its simply a tag heuer 2000 without the TAG logo. the th 2000 is about a 700 dollar watch. the only one i could find labeled just HEUER on the dial has an asking price of 230 on ebay.

TAG bought Heuer in 1985. There is approximately a 0% chance that your watch was made prior to 1985.

If anything, that watch is a prime example of exactly how TAG ruined Heuer, which was once one o the great production watchmakers.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean?

Dani Seikosha made the LM Special line from ~1971-1975 and the movement they used in this line (the Seiko 52xx) is one of the best production automatic movements of the 1970s, comparable to the ETA 2892-A2, Omega 56x/75x and Rolex 3035. The movement was so good that it was also used in King Seikos and resurrected by Seiko in the 1990s as the 4s15, which is now only used in Credors.

They can often be had for less than $100 USD off Yahoo! Japan Auctions, though they will require a full service on the movement. I paid a fair bit more for the blue dialed one, but that's because it's the single rarest dial variant of any LM Special.

Tons of vintage options under 1.5k for dive watches. Hell, at that price, you could probably get something cool for less than 800, pay for a full service with new gaskets to ensure waterproofing, and then still not have spent all your money.

But if you want a brand new mechanicals? That's going to be tough.

If you don't want the SKX013 or 015 you may have to browse one of the many micro-brands making and selling divers to see if they're making under 40mm with a stock eta movement.

Swatch quartz watches are widely panned as overpriced, cheap quartz watches, though as weird fashion pieces they certainly have a more varied, and in some cases, better design.

The swatch sistem 51 watches are widely panned as having a deplorable movement (unjeweled, plastic escape fork, for example).

In the end they're disposable curiosities, not serious watches, but they're not bad for disposable curiosities.

This may be more suited for /diy/ but I'll ask here cos why not.

Has anyone here made or attempted to make their own watch winder?
I was thinking of buying this 3v motor, attach it to some kinda stand and have the motor twirl a small box that I could velcro one of them little watch cushions to and i could put the watch on the cushion.
Btw this motor is 15 RPM, is that too fast?
>>
>>59409899
That would wind most watches in an hour.

Keep in mind not all watches wind bidirectionaly, make sure it's turning the correct way.
>>
>>59409655
modded skx
>>
>>59409899
Don't try to reinvent the wheel, a watch winder is simply a rotating platform. Seems most winders are at about 7rpm of the actual watch. Easy enough with slight gear reduction of your 15rpm motor. Are you doing some DIY as a project for fun, but alright if it doesn't look like a finished retail product?

Recommend a watch to me. Cheap, ~$100 at most.
I want something easy to read at night. Good glow and simple dial.

An actual vintage Casio/Seiko digital from the 80s.
The cheap chrome plated resin cases on the new Casios are crap. Get something with a stainless case or something that's obviously plastic.

pic sort of related

I should have mentioned, something that doesn't need a light button. I forget the term, looking for something with the glowing hands and dial indicators.

Are compass bezels actually useful or useless in your experience?

Hi beater watch. What strap are you wearing?
>>
>>59412915
useless
if you need a compass use a compass
if you don't have a compass, having the bezel really won't be helping that much, it's still a pain in the ass

Some random strap that came with a Timex. The strap is higher quality than the Timex itself.

Is that yours? Does the quick-set for the day and date work on it? If so, I would recommend selling it before the quick-set breaks.

The Suwa Seikosha produced 56xx caliber has a plastic gear in the quick-set mechanism that tends to shrink and crack due to age. As a result, the quick-set on every 56xx caliber is likely to eventually fail.
