Any idea what could be causing such a huge discrepancy?
PC started shutting down when playing games. Figured it was the PSU, but found this monstrosity of a reading in HWiNFO..

what the fuck if true.

Stock cooler fan is like, 60mm or something.
Jet engine when it goes full tilt, lol
I didn't build the pc.

My core 3 runs upwards of 10C hotter than the rest. I figure I'm going to repaste and seat my cooler but yeah, 3 tends to also be close to package temp which is then high while core 0-2 are much lower.

the last time i saw a heatsink with a 60mm fan was on a athlon xp in the early 2000's. upgrade that shit senpai that's your problem i bet.

Fair enough but, i still don't get why CPU package is literally 2x the reading of everything else

Aye, i was surprised too. Pretty sure I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer rev 2 and some Arctic Silver lying around here somewhere; i'll try get it together.
Apart from the noise though, the stock cooler it seemed to get along fine. Semi-random shutdowns only started happening a few days ago. Thought PSU, but the suspected temp safeguards. And then found this insane reading. I'm at a loss :/
Your cooler isn't on properly. Refit it and apply thermal paste and take the AMD sticker off the heat spreader.

which processor? some amd apus get fucked temp readings literally everywhere

Well, fuck me sideways. You're right!
Got me googling and I found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html
Tl;dr:
>Yes, Most programs can't read APU temp signals properly
>One program that's guaranteed to work is AMD's own Overdrive
>Temperatures are presented in an annoyingly indirect way though
-Pic related is temps with SWBF running as in the OP, according to both Overdrive and HWiNFO.
-"Thermal margin" = (max_temp - current_temp).
-A8-6600k max_temp is 74 C (http://products.amd.com/en-us/search/APU/AMD-A-Series-Processors/AMD-A8-Series-APU-for-Desktops/A8-6600K-with-Radeon™-HD-8570D/61)
-HWiNFO is reporting 99.4 C; Overdrive is reporting 54.2 C
Basically it was HWiNFO all along. There is no temp issue with my rig. Hooray!
>Well shit, that leaves me back to square one with the shutdowns
