I know there are freelancer coder sites, I asked if skilled people really make a living that way, especially considering there are a billion Indians and Chinamen who can do it too online.

Globalism was a mistake
All of the freelance programming sites I've checked out sucked.
Every post was "I want to make an Instagram clone with an iPhone, Android, desktop, and web application. My budget is $11."
Then the few half-decent posts on there were immediately swarmed by Indians and Pakis who work for about a quarter of what the Americans on the site were charging.
