Did you remember when you actually have a turbo button on chassis?
My 486 had one. Needed to use it to half frequency when you used programs that based their internal counts/clocks on CPU frequency.

Not him, but this guy: >>59382488

I still marvel at the incapability of some commercial MS-DOS programmers, who did not use proper timers.
I learned PIC timer programming with interrupt handlers at age 15. How could these commercial developers not master such a stupidly simple thing?

It's was interesting because most of the time you couldn't tell the difference between 50 and 100mhz.
The most surprising thing is that mobos and case makers actually implemented a hardware solution for a software bug, all while the CPU architecture was limited to 640kb of RAM + plus a lot of shenanigans to run the upper and extended memory.

You.. downgraded from a 7970 to a 270x? What happened? If a 7970 died that early you should have gotten a 290 as an RMA replacement not 270.

>>59382950
Wasn't the turbo button to make it not go faster, but to run at a specific frequency for some older DOS programs and stuff?
>>
>>59382959
The turbo limited the frequency so it was de facto the first switch based downclock I remember.

Looks like mITX are coming well before the R5 launch, and some board manufacturers are just going to use the X370 chipset instead of waiting on the X300 one that's specifically made for mITX.

What's the difference between x370 and x300 and how is x300's existence justified if x370 can be shrunken down to mITX?

x300 is likely not going to support SLI and will use less power.
B350 uses less power than the X370, as well, for example. That's a significant deal in a tight case.

I fell for bitcoin meme, bought hd7970 to mine, mined the shit out of it until I started to see artifacts. Also used it partially as a space heater for my small room at that time. Anyway I actually turned profit, after I sold that to some clueless guy, bought r9 270x, 60$ PSU and 512 samsung ssd with money made. No regrets yet.

Huh I mined with 2 7970s for 3 months and they're both still working great 6 years later.

I undervolted them under 1v and underclocked them to 910mhz for maximum power efficiency, though, which surely wore them a lot less.

LTC mining. Sold when it was high to get the original investment back, then sold the hardware (except a few of the GPUs and a couple of motherboards and PSUs for myself) for a return of about 85% of the original purchase price. Still have thousands of coins. I mined over 1000 with that 6950 when LTC difficulty was below 1.

No.
2003-2005 was their good era.
Before Athlon64 they were slower, and when Intel released the Conroe and later the Kentsfield, AMD was lost, and still haven't had a taste of being best.
Ryzen is somewhat closer though, but fails miserably in games.

I know my first PC had a 386DX-40, it had a Turbo button and took ages to boot and start any apps. Had many AMDs CPU cause it was cheap as fuck, my first bought was a Ahtlon 64 before that I was just a kid, Them I had a nice deal for a Ahtlon X2 kit(cpu+mobo+ram) for very cheap money, and used that for a long long time. Last time I upgraded was a long time ago and still have my Phenom II X4 965 running at 4.0Ghz. GPUs I had a few, I remember having a SiS vga but i cant remember the model was too long ago and I was too young, my first bought was a FX5200, it was cheap and did the job, them i bought a X1300 cause it had the same performance than a 9600 that I got jawdroped when I saw it back them. When it died I got a HD4850, them a HD6770 and today I have a RX480. Im craving to switch CPU but no money, no job.

You have no clue what you're talking about.

The Tbird 1.33 in 2001 was 20% faster for 30% cheaper than the 1.5Ghz P4.
That's just one example. The entire lineups were like that.
AMD had $300 CPUs beating $1000 Intel CPUs in 2003-2005 but throughout 1999-2007 they were still shitstomping them just to not quite that degree.

It's not a price/performance race.

AMDs X2 versions were all slower than the E6600 and E8600
Q6600 even though it was only 2.4GHz and OC'd easily to 3GHz+ was neck on neck on 3GHz+ AMD x4's.

Then the gap widened even more when Bloomfield came.
AMD had their 3 year period.

You're sterile or were you raped as a child?

>AMDs X2 versions were all slower than the E6600 and E8600

That was 2-3 years later though.

Back with the original Athlon, Athlon XP, Athlon 64 (FX-55) and Athlon 64 X2, they were either beating or destroying the Pentium 3s and 4s, consistently.

It's part of the reason why Intel gave up on Netburst, and made new desktop chips out of their Pentium Ms (which were improved Pentium 3s).

Everyone at the time knew AMDs were better. Better performance-per-clock, performance-per-dollar, performance-per-watt, and better overclocking. There's no disputing this. It's as well known as your mother being a dumb whore to have spawned you.

It's irrelevant because you're stuck with one CPU per motherboard unless you go server boards.
It's irrelevant because because features, performance is top prio, not it's price.
It's irrelevant because a few watt here or there means nothing in the whole rig, turn off one of the 40w lamps in the other room and you now save energy instead.

But then again, AMD is Intels young lil bitch, former subcontractor and now all these years later AMD is still Intels, now grown up bitch.

Wait what was that about price per performance again?
1800X price vs 7700K?

I think I had a Pentium II after that
I'm sure the first AMD system I had was AMD Athlon 64 x2. Had this one for years until a cap on the motherboard blew
Then I got a Phenom II x3
now AMD A8-7600 which I had for a while. I'm considering upgrading it but I quite frankly don't need to, and I'm quite happy with it since it's passively cooled and therefore quiet.

None of these really "destroyed" the competition like you probably think it did.
First-generation Athlons were only good for the first few speed grades, the ones making it to 1 GHz did so using slow cache running at 1/3 of the CPU clock, absolute fucking garbage.
Thunderbird was very competitive, Durons were a fantastic value, but in the end the differences weren't all that great.
Same deal with the Athlon XP. With any gain they made Intel could simply raise clocks to match them, the Athlon MP was also a pathetic as a server/workstation chip.
K8 was the real golden age, it pushed the industry forward and was a fantastic value, even if it was a little lackluster in the end when Core2 came out against it.

In the end, if you were given either line you wouldn't have a bad time. Millions of people around the world got the job done on both. I'm tired of retards trying to always push this "poor AMD" victim narrative bullshit and wish you faggots would just see shit for what it was.
