Tell me /g/, why is this peace of shit so fucking buggy? Why can't M$ do a proper IDE release where everything works?

I made a comparison and it has less bugs than the very expensive jetbrains ide and retarded code editors such as vim, emacs or dummy sublime-text.

Xcode is quite terrible, and it's been getting worse rapidly in the past three years or so.

I don't think Apple gives two fuck about developer experience anymore.

Works on my machine. Consider upgrading your P3 and 128MB of ram.

My only problem with 2017 is I can't push Git comitts in the team explorer. Gives an error and haven't had the time to even care what the issue is. I'm just pushing from CLI for now.
Otherwise it starts faster than 2015 and the new shit is nice.

VS is only good thing made by microsoft.
>>
>>59385411
>laptop cpu
no wonder you're complaining, does that laptop at least have a ssd?
>>
>>59385464
Yes it does have an ssd. And that CPU should be more than adequate. It's definitely not a hardware issue.

The same project didn't have these issues in VS 2015 (except the copy/paste issue which was fixed), nor does it have any issues on my i5 laptop running windows 7 with 4gb of ram in VS 2013. VS 2017 is the problem.

This also still doesn't explain why the installer idles at 40% CPU or why there's no option to turn off the notification which I now get every single time I start or why it stops responding every time I tab into it or why the copy/paste bug from 2015 is back.

I'm the last person to shit on VS, but 2015 was buggy and 2017 is unusable. No one tested this software.
>>
>>59385632
really strange, I have a processor that is just barely better than yours, and it works like a charm

but I tell you this, the first time I installed visual studio 2017 (I was on a normal hard drive, and it was a preview build) it was fine at first - the startup times -, but after some time, it got unbearably slow, with 2+ min startup times

sometimes it gets fucky when updating/installing (of course it's microsoft's fault), but when it works, it works pretty well, I now have a ssd too, and vs 2017 still opens quite fast, and the "light loading" stuff works properly

if i was having some problem like that, even more on a ssd, I'd try to purge it the best way I can and reinstall again
>>
>>59385775
> the startup times -, but after some time, it got unbearably slow, with 2+ min startup times
I've had this too, you can usually delete your .suo file to fix it.

I've just reverted to 2015 for now, I'll try a clean install again after the first big update.
>>
>>59385908
I also had some problems updating from RC to release, it froze at 51%, I had to kill the process, and in the next startup it started again and worked

Dude that i7 is a low power mobile part with 2 cores and 7.5-15W TDP max. Its a a literal piece of shit. You got baited by Jewtels naming scheme and now you know why everything runs like shit on your ultrabook.
>>
>>59389248
>everything runs like shit
not everything runs like shit, specifically vs 2015 and vs 2017 run like shit. And vs 2017 runs like shit to the extent that it's unusable. I'm not the only one having these issues either. My CPU should be more than sufficient.

So either Microsoft has completely mangled the performance of VS from 2013 to 2017: from buttery smooth operation to completely unusable/unstable, or they released buggy software.

Microsoft has failed to produce any good software in the last 4 years so I imagine it's a combination of both

>>
>>59389039
But JetBrains has better IDEs, costs less, and is on every system so you don't need to worry about transition cost if you're a Windows programmer looking to switch to the unixverse. Plus it's free for college students (and any open-source developer).
M$ should have a shitload of pressure to make their product better.
>>
>>59387988
Depends on the language. If you want an IDE for damn near every language though, only JetBrains has that. Luckily theirs isn't too bad.
>>
>>59387677
You can't download the C plugin for IntelliJ unless you're also paying for CLion. It's one of the few languages they don't offer as a plugin.
