Is it possible to run Windows 7 (well) on a Kaby Lake laptop? I'm Getting conflicting information, some sources say it can't be done, others that it can but that it won't work well, others that it will work fine.

No. Microsoft products are malware which will send all your data the the NSA and the CIA.
It's not officially supported by M$, but there's nothing stopping you from doing it.

Unless you don't want your battery life to go down the shitter then by all means, use Windows 7.
It will run fine, it just wont use the new kaby lake cpu features
Windows XP runs perfectly on a haswell cpu

Yes, I had it installed on a couple of KabyLake notebooks, and it works flawlessly. Hell, I've seen people online managing to install XP on KabyLake laptop.
