What video editing software does /g/ use? I'm going to start taking some video editing courses next semester and I want to start learning how to edit videos in advance so I'll be able to hold my own in class and turn in actually high quality assignments. I've been thinking of getting either premire or vegas, what do you guys think?

vapoursynth + ffmpeg + vim

I've tried a few FOSS ones, and Blender felt the most polished. I'm no expert though.

Final Cut X

I'm in the field, there are 3 alternatives among professionals: Avid Media Composer, Final Cut and Premiere.
Ignore the first: currently it is used only in higher levels, it is difficult to crack and definitively not user friendly, you have to give yourself a very strict workflow to use it well, something that doesn't happen at first.
Final cut is the go-to for macfags, I used final cut X and I assure you it is nothing special. Of course it works but it is not something you'd need. I heard in the final cut 7 days it was incredibly good. Performance on OSX are incredible tho, you could edit 4K on a coreM.
My advice is to go with premiere, it is well recognized and used in lower and mid levels so it is not something you'll only use, it is quite easy to use but still offers a lot of flexibility, it used to be basically a toy at first but nowadays it is perfect to learn and for small projects.
Sony Vegas is fine but nobody uses it for work. Good for making memes on youtube, so it makes no sense for me.

Vegas is very easy to use and has lots of Gaymer plugins, really isn't a long-term product though.
Premiere is incredible, seamless integration with Photoshop and After Effects makes it way stronger than other programs for most projects.
In terms of pure workflowing Avid is the king, it's not built for adding effects or doing actual 'editing' - but for building TV shows and stringing together movies it's undoubtedly the king.
Overally premier is the best mix, you can use it for anything from shitty YouTube memes to full industry editing.

Depends on where you live too.
In Japan a lot of people use Edius, for example.

Italianfag here, but I don't think things are that different in Europe/ USA. As long as you use one of these 3 you are at least recognized. Among youngs or people who started their business in the last 5/10 years premiere is absolutely the most used, if not the only one, someone tried final cut because he had a Mac but eventually switched to premiere for compatibility with colleagues

I heard edius is ok and very cheap to actually buy.
no need to download cracks
