I've been advised that the best beginner Linux distro that works and looks nice without tweaking is Solus by a colleague. I'm going to try installing a distro on my laptop since windows has gotten too slow on it.
I've checked the repo and it seems to have everything I'll use, it's fast, stable, bleeding edge, and rolling release.
What does /g/ think?

Is there an appreciable difference between an Ubuntu minimal net-install and a Debian net-install? Will the Amazon botnet be present on the ubuntu minimal install?

It's probably the best distro available. Only gripe is the repository is a bit small, but whatever, it's got everything most people need.
