im being suspicious of you OP. Why are you shilling Nightly since last week? Are you CIA?
>>
>>59335325
This seems like a good place to ask.

Anyone else's Nightly not updating? I had Nightly from AUR but it's outdated now, so I upgraded to 55.0a1 manually. Now Nightly downloads the update, but when it tries to install it says "could not install update, make sure there are no other copies of firefox running and restart Nightly" or something like that.
"About Nightly" says I'm on 55.0a1 (2017-03-08)
I guess I'm wondering if this is an issue with 55.0a1 or if other people's Nightly's are updating and it's just my problem.
>>
>>59335521

current version is 55.0a1 (2017-03-10)

do you have multiple versions of firefox installed?

Nope, I got rid of version 54 which I'd gotten from the AUR. I even got rid of IceCat just in case that was somehow interfering.

Give me ONE (1) good reason to use any version other than stable.
No buzzwords allowed.
>>
>>59336063
Way better e10s support. It also gets hardware acceleration fixes etc. faster
>>
why would I use firefox when waterfox exists?

>>59335325
What advantages the nightly has over the stable release?
>>
>>59336063
>>59336157
You get access to features faster but they might not work properly. I recommend using beta over stable so you get features faster but it's also been through 2 stages of testing already so it's pretty stable. Mozilla does not allow buggy features past dev edition so beta is close to the same level of stability as stable itself.
>>
>>59336063
Try dev edition

e10 makes things zippy af
>>
>>59336309
What feature did you get that you like in the last 2 years?
>>
>>59336348
Most recently web assembly is pretty neat. e10s increased stability and responsiveness. 64bit helps a bit with performance and eliminates out of memory errors. I forget what all they've added in the last few years because every update comes with a number of them.

I'm looking forward to basically the entirety of the quantum project (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Quantum). Plus web extensions and browser sandboxing. Mozilla also wants to drop NPAPI and use PPAPI which is somewhat more stable and maybe more secure.
>>
>>59336456
Quantum will be a simple update? I thought it will be a completely new version, that needs clean installation.
>>
>>59336487
Quantum is basically like rebuilding Firefox from the ground up using Servo. They're doing it in gradual steps though. As Servo is being built components from it that have reached maturity will be taken and incorporated into Firefox. So over time parts of Gecko will be removed and replaced with Servo. Eventually the entire browser might be based on Servo but Mozilla isn't sure if that's the best option yet.

Why do people use Firefox these days? Chrome is objectively better.

If you don't use more than 5 tabs at a time, sure. I'm currently using 200 tabs in Nightly with Tree Tabs with no problem managing all of them.

Yes in about:config:
dom.enable_performance = false
datareporting.healthreport.service.enabled = false
datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.enabled = false
toolkit.telemetry.unified = false
>Does Nightly also auto send data?
Yes, but can be disabled like I've shown above.
>>
>>59339063
Thank you.

I don't use either at the moment. But there is a chance I might in the future to use unsigned addons (that I make). Those two flavors of FF were listed as options on the mozilla dev site.

>>59335458
no but you are obviously new
