But that's wrong. The windows lag when moved around, like most things in Xorg. That's one of the reasons Wayland even exists.

Why do Linux users like to pretend these problems don't exist?

It's a great free operating system, but it still has flaws.

No they don't. Why do windows users pretend they know about linux problems? What ancient forumpost have you been reading mate?

Yes it has flaws, like anything, but lag while moving windows isn't one of them. And hasn't been in the approximately 7 years I've been using it.

I admit I missed that. Hardware-wise, you are quite correct, Windows is at a disadvantage due to needing to download drivers from the manufacturer's site or from a CD. I don't think Linux has trouble automatically giving me a network connection for example.

>>
>>59316630
You're right, it doesn't.

Honestly the only thing windows has over linux is software availability. If you need windows games or some other windows only software, linux isn't gonna help you. For literally anything else though, linux is superior. It's easier (and so much fucking quicker) to install, it's easier and quicker to update, it's faster, it's easier to use, installing new things is easier (and safer if you install from repos, which is 95% of the time the case), it's more customizable, it doesn't spy on you, better hardware support, better filesystem, it's free, better support, better community. I honestly can't think of a single thing besides software availability that windows does better.
>>
>>59316567

If you provide source we probably can.
>>
>>59316755
In other words, more software is available. That's literally the only argument you have. And it says absolutely nothing about windows quality, only its popularity. (and yes, those two are completely unrelated)

>Is just wrong. Linux is objectively easier to use.
This is wrong both for complete computer illiterates and for somewhat savvy people. Unless you provide a bi fucking manual. Software center is a joke in most distros, including even leading ones like ubuntu. It either oes not work, or is slow. There was problem installing this and that. Permissions and updates get fucked up. Audio does not work properly out of the box. File managers are a mess.
Only thing that works is console. And i's not easy to use. Its completely unforiving inut mistakes. You have to 100% know what you want from it, and possibly have another computer or smartphone nearby to google for answers because xorg has died or wifi suddenly dissapeared.

>non-autistic gui
>non-autistic configuration

windows control panel is godly. Everything is laid out in intuitive way. Resolutions, keymaps, battery plans, notifications.

in linux however you may have only half of those options, simple things like tweaking UI is a separate package in gnome. How fucked up is that?
Either you are lucky enough to find a configurable file by going though that thick manual of yours,or you have to recompile your own shit. Which is crazy.

Microsoft is epitome of communism, everything people had to go through in soviet times you can relate to Windows features. Just for example:
1.People limited to costomizing their interface without 3rd party hacks - People in soviet times were limited to 2 types of wall paper and 3 types of rugs that looked very similar, expensive non toilet paper quality wallpaper from East Germany was a rarity.
2.Zero privacy, except if you never connect to the internet - People in soviet times only had some sort of privacy because lack of technology back then, but all international calls were recorded, patrol with dogs on beaches at night, you would get a visit from a slight suspision of activism.
3.Windows marketshare abuse, Microsoft knows it has upper hand on some consumer software compaired to linux up until now, so they force people to upgrade to windows10, ending support on security updates for w7 and other versions early, knowing exactly some people rely on stuff like photoshop and sony vegas - Same way the soviet union only provided you with shitty TV's that you had to smack from time to time just to make it work again, knowing exactly that people have no other choice.
4.Security holes. Microsoft has so many security holes due to their poor structure and closed source code - Just like in soviet times, despite obvious corruption and people stealing meat and clothes from the workplace, nothing was done because the issue was so big it was accepted.

Not him, but if you want to work on software to prove it work in GNU/Linux, try this out. It is a game from 1998 with DirectDraw being required in a lot of places. The version I linked is version 1.14 European, which has a painting at the beginning of the training level that the patched version does not have. Using third party patches like NewDark also eliminates this. My question is if you can get 1.14 working without needing to change the game files. You can use DirectDraw wrappers, but you may not modify the resource files so it has modern stuff like 32 bit.

If you can pull this off, I will replace my Windows system and gladly bash Windows users. /g/ood luck and /g/odspeed my /g/nu linux warriors!

On most Linux distros you'll need to use the terminal to unfuck dependencies at some point, and that's not something granny can do.

Only if you fucked with it in the first place, something granny doesn't do. I've never even had to do that, except on arch, what a shitshow.

Gaming and compatibility. Nothing else though unless you like OS integrated ads, two separate UI paradigms, and the worse update system I've ever seen.

Also """"enhanced telemetry"""" from a company known for NSA Key and for being one of the first to join PRISM. Good luck with that.

I pretty much assume anyone defending windows 10 is either a shill or completely inept at this point. Windows 7 will be my last microsoft OS.

You could try going for a headless GPU rig if you have hardware that supports it (CPU+Motherboard with Vt-x and Vt-d support, check if your integrated GPU and dedicated GPU don't conflict and support Vt-d). It won't stop the spying but at least help mitigate it.

Took me a few days to figure it out, found this guide quite helpful in setting up QEMU+KVM. https://www.evonide.com/non-root-gpu-passthrough-setup/

You could use Virt-manager GUI frontend (similar to dealing with virtual box) instead of scripting if that scares you but you have to at least follow the guide until the dedicated GPU gets blacklisted first otherwise you won't be able to pass it through to the VM.

Managed to get it up and running with an i7 4790 and GTX980, but I've read of people managing with even lower end hardware.

Then you can run windows in a VM assign it a GPU to play your vidya and piss off back to linux host when done. The performance is pretty damned close if you set it up properly, haven't stress tested my setup, haven't encountered any issues so far. If anything EDF4.1 does not lag at the lobby anymore for some reason.

If you want your dedicated GPU on host then Nvidia would not be the way to go, I've heard of some people managing to unbind and rebind their GPUs back to host with AMD. You could just install another linux virtual machine and assign it the dGPU.

Generally you set the integrated GPU to the host, black list the dedicated GPU and pass it to whatever VM you want to open. Most games are GPU intensive so you won't notice any performance loss unless you've done something horribly wrong.

I dont plan on ever migrating to windows 10 unless its on a laptop I buy later or something

What are the pros over 7 exactly? I'm pretty comfortable navigating 7, it feels smooth and pretty much does everything I need it to, playing games and stuff like that

I'm late as all fuck but I'll answer this.

In general games run better on Windows 10 than on Windows 7. By better I mean games on Windows 10 get 1-5 more FPS on average than those on 7.

The cons are the spyware and adware shit. Stuff like Candy Crush is automatically downloaded and installed when you install Windows 10, and the Xbox app has a recording feature that has to be disabled in the registry since it can fuck up the FPS of many games. There are many cons. If you cut out all the bloat you can and just use the OS for gaming it's okay. If you plan on doing more stick with 7, or hell, even 8.1.

Try mounting a SSHFS mount point with WIndows Explorer in W10.
Try mounting any virtual file systems.
Try creating files with a leading dot.
Try creating files that contain a colon character.
Try viewing your files without embedded ads (even on W10 "Enterprise").

Join Insider, leave a suggestion - if people like it, they'll upvote it and MS might implement the option.

I dont think the average schmuck will pay much attention to aesthetic suggestions. In my experience those types of inquiries always have some faggots in the comments saying "Why?" "It works fine as is" or some other stupid shit

>>59331624
Transparent start menu and taskbar were implemented due to people asking for them - that's purely aesthetics.
