In the new GPU APIs, out of the 3 advantages usually cited (pic related) 2 of them offload even more stuff onto the GPUs. That makes CPUs even more irrelevant than they already are when it gets to popular gaming. Most developers were not limited due to lack of CPU multithreading, they were limited due to GPU/VRAM I/O.
That is not even limited to popular gaming since basic rendering and in some cases basic encoding also can be more efficiently done on a GPU nowadays. When possible, GPUs add functionality for even more computation. GPUs become more important on gaming and basic rendering every single iteration for decades now.
Sure you do need serial machines for complex computation but fuck off with the delusion most people will need it. The best you can hope for is slow gradual improvement that may make 6c/12 a new sweet spot for most people instead 4c/8t in more than 4 years from now. For most needs, Workstations are no different at that.
