Do you need a MVMe compatible motherboard to support and benefit from the performance of a drive like Toshiba OCZ RD400? Or it doesn't matter as long as your motherboard supports NVMe and has a PCI-E x4 slot?

What the fuck is a "NVMe compatible" motherboard?

NVMe is just a standard defining how disk controllers and device drivers should interact. All you need is an available PCIe slot and a NVMe driver.

Yes, an "NVMe drive" is just an SSD that supports NVMe (99.5% of PCIe SSDs do this), and a SSD that supports NVMe is by definition an "NVMe controller". It's just a modern and unified approach to old fashioned disk controllers.
