I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. I've used AUR script to compile it, if you're using non-arch distro:
1. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/glib2-patched-thumbnailer/ : Read what dependencies you'll need to install(they can be named differently in your distro).
2. https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=glib2-patched-thumbnailer Take a look at prepare and build functions. There are commands this script uses to compile patched glib2.

What is the best desktop environment? I actually just installed and I was using Deepin for a couple days and CPU was maxed for some reason. I installed some system updates that came up and it immobilized the whole fucking thing.

Not sure what you mean about commands, having a WM just means having a more customized environment, a DE is essentially a WM + fuckload other programs you probably don't really need

This mhwd bullshit that made me waste an entire afternoon just to get Xorg running properly with ati drivers. Meanwhile, I can just install xf86-video-ati on another distro and everything works. I tried an openrc iso, their ncurse installer is a buggy piece of garbage, the GUI one can't even LVM, and doing a classic CLI/chroot install doesn't looks like it was even intended to be possible.
