Why isn't there any working open source perceptual hashing project for videos?
Phash seems dead, and in blockhash it's experimental.
Going through a collection of several thousand videos manually would be such a pain.

why not just use SHA or md5?

> A perceptual hash is a fingerprint of a multimedia file derived from various features from its content. Unlike cryptographic hash functions which rely on the avalanche effect of small changes in input leading to drastic changes in the output, perceptual hashes are "close" to one another if the features are similar.
So I imagine this'd be helpful for those who want to get metadata for clips they don't have meta data for

I'm curious, please explain to me how md5/sha helps me finding smiliar videos. similar, not binary identical.

I don't care about metadata, I need to find dupes.

It doesn't, obviously. They're just stupid and obviously don't know what a phash is.
On the subject, hydrus will probably get that eventually, but since it's a project with only one dev, it could take a few years.
