Why care about botnet if it provides you with services you like? Why care that google tracks you and gives you reccomendations and personalized ads if it's stuff you're interested in?
>>
>>59245923
its a slippery slope
>>
>>59245923
Because soon or later they will use the information against you?

For example, you uncover a corruption in your state. You tried to hide but because of your past datas on these service providers, they can pinpoint your potential hiding place and off you.
>>
Because their ultimate goal (along with facebook) is to take complete control of all global politics and society in general, and that probably isn't good
>>
>>59245951
Hear, hear. It's a losing battle, arguably lost already. But I'll resist dammit.
>>
>>59245943
>For example, you uncover a corruption in your state
lmao, as if you're ever going to do anything even vaguely resembling this
give me a fucking break you neckbeard doofus
>>
Google knows every porn site you visit, every time you research "ways to shorten herpes outbreak" every time you do any medical or mental health or prescription query

they know your medical history, your history of where and when you log on, what substances you use/are addicted to

They can profile you and have more info than even your doctor, if someone got hold of this info they could ruin you were you an important person

just because all you see is ads for video cards or whatever does not mean that is the only data they collect, they are just careful not to giver you personalized porn ads on news sites and shit like that
>>
>>59245943
>This nigger thinks he's NCIS or something

Anon compiling in gentoo doesnt make you a leet hacker
>>
>>59245967
here's a good example:

you say something to your friend in FaceBook(TM) messenger about ISIS.
Bam now you're on a list and you get stopped at every border you cross
>>
>>59245985
Ok then what search engines are good then? Duckduckgo?
>>
>>59246002
startpage.com or searx.me are my personal favourites
>>
>>59245923
Google makes a fortune off selling private information to ad companies
>>
>>59245985
This is why you should search a whole load of stuff unrelated to you, so google builds a profile based on little real information.
Best to not only use google for searching real problems but drown them in fictional ones too.
>>
>>59246002
>Ok then what search engines are good then? Duckduckgo?

there are ways to use google to stop them from collecting that data or associating it with you, look into it

i have not used duckduckgo personally
>>
>>59246020
>there are ways to use google to stop them from collecting that data or associating it with you, look into it
That's too naive.
>>
>>59246017
>This is why you should search a whole load of stuff unrelated to you, so google builds a profile based on little real information.
>Best to not only use google for searching real problems but drown them in fictional ones too.

based on your age and location and other stats as well as dwell times on the sites you visit this would be very hard to do

Google basically has HIPPA info on you and you gave it to them, it's a grey legal area
>>
>>59246010
k thx now I can browse internet without pajeets and ibm irobot analyzing my interest in anime
>>
Can we just agree that anything you do it's useless?

The only way for true privacy is to become a government higher-ups. Ideally one of the spy agency.
>>
>>59246030

no it's not, VPN into google or tor to google for all your herpes related questions

one time my gf broke up with me via gmail, the next day the ad at the top of my gmail was an ad for a book titled "how to get your girlfriend back"

they even know when your relationships begin and end and with whom
>>
>>59246055
>no it's not, VPN into google or tor to google for all your herpes related questions
That's too naive. Damn kids.
>>
Do people really think changing your search engine will affect anything? Their shit is embedded in every website on the internet, they control the entire web

Example: that Captcha you do every time you post in this thread
>>
>>59246061

understanding networking, cookies and tracking methods, then avoiding them, is not naive
>>
>>59246036
>Google basically has HIPPA info on you

Then how tf do you get a job nowadays without someone somewhere getting your HIPPA information. All those apps you can send out and a lot of the time you never get a message back that your accepted or rejected.

It's a loss /g/ just accept googlenet deepstate won

well it's not like google releases your search info to employers, they are too greedy for that
>>
If Mossad wants to get you, nothing you can do about it.
>>
>>59245923
>Why care about botnet if it provides you with services you like? Why care that google tracks you and gives you reccomendations and personalized ads if it's stuff you're interested in?
I don't like advertising and will go out of my way to avoid it. "Relevant advertising" is an oxymoron. If I want to buy a product, I'll go looking for it, I have zero use for the product finding me.

Lets also not forget here that the whole purpose of advertising is to persuade you to buy things you otherwise would not buy. I don't want that. It is not in my interest. It costs me money. And I find it offensive and obnoxious from first principles.

Also this >>59245985
A large trove of data on people is useful for manipulating them in other ways, not just pushing them into buying video cards. Someone who knows everything about your life has the power to blackmail you. I don't think Google should have that kind of power, even if I have no indication that they intend to use it, now or ever.

Speaking of which, Google never forgets. Once they have a piece of information on you, there is no way to make them delete it, and to prove that they have done so. So if I trust Google with my information now, I'm not only trusting Google today, I'm trusting them for all time. Even if Google is not malicious now, they might become malicious later. Or they might just go out of business in ten years like Yahoo and have that data sold off to the highest bidder.

>>59246052
>Can we just agree that anything you do it's useless?
No. You're wrong. You are either an idiot who fell for a meme, or you're a shill. Because privacy is a continuum, not an either/or thing where you have absolute privacy or none at all. You don't have to thwart every possible tracking method, just the ones they use the most and the ones that give away the most information. Doing something is unarguably better than doing nothing.

Because the botnet just becomes your own personal echo chamber. You end up having yourself reflected back at you. How do you get challenged in your life if you're not open to new ideas and different points of view.

This is arguably why politics is quickly polarising everyone at the moment. Internet finds you point of view and amplifies it by giving you more and more extreme hits of your views. It's wrong. We're building a world of extremists.

That's a load of crap, no matter where you stand politically you can't deny that Facebook and the Goog are actively trying to push society to the left pretty aggressively

or they might get hacked in 10 years and have someone release everyone's search history by name for lulz

so your wife/parents/friends could browse everything you have ever searched and all the sites you clicked on and more

Value your freedom or you will lose it, teaches history. 'Don't bother us with politics', respond those who don't want to learn.

>>
>>59246202
>That's a load of crap, no matter where you stand politically you can't deny that Facebook and the Goog are actively trying to push society to the left pretty aggressively

not really, if you personalize google news and click on nothing but pro altright news stories and blogs they will give you more of that as time goes on

google might be "liberal" in terms of them wanting to hire more women and gays and shit but they are not so liberal as to not give their customers what they want to make money
>>
>>59246219
I hope this happens just so I can be super smug to everyone I know

Is Bing a lesser evil?
>>
>>59246251

probably but overall it's a shitty search engine
>>
>>59246251

Probably not, all these companies have seen how lucrative the business model is, so all the cool kids are data mining now
>>
>>59246264
>Probably not, all these companies have seen how lucrative the business model is, so all the cool kids are data mining now

bing at least does not push the "always logged in with your account" thing as bad as google does
>>
>>59246251
The only good search engines are the ones that don't track you.
>>
>>59246274

Right, they have Windows 10 for that
>>
Theoretically, wouldn't you have to forego anything that uses Captcha to avoid Google entirely?
If so, basically every person in /g/ who advocates for privacy is basically fucked anyway.
>>
>>59246277

if windows 10 were google they would browse every file on your PC and give you ads based on your files inside the OS
>>
>>59245985
this. and if you think it's fine cause they don't do anything bad with it, google does not have any issues at all sharing this data with state actors. If I were a US citizen, I'd be concerned about this (+- equally true if hillary had gotten president btw).

>>59246017
>>
>>59246284

kind of but not really, if you don't have a google account and don't use google to search and don't use gmail they are not getting much info via just you solving captcha
>>
>>59246274
>>bing at least does not push the "always logged in with your account" thing as bad as google does
Who else noticed when a few years ago they changed the login-page default for "Keep me signed in" to checked from unchecked?
>>
>>59246284
Duh.
You don't see the Great Stallman on /g/.

>>>bing at least does not push the "always logged in with your account" thing as bad as google does
>Who else noticed when a few years ago they changed the login-page default for "Keep me signed in" to checked from unchecked?

google lives and dies by people staying signed in all the time

they get basically every keystroke and file you look at when you do that
>>
>>59246284
Well technically you can. Pay Gook Moot $20 a year in BTC and you can use the site Google-free and anonymously.

Go on localbitcoins and buy them from someone who accepts cash. Or things like gift cards, if you can buy those with cash without giving an id.
>>
>>59246276
Such as...?
I've seen several people here say that even Duckduckgo tracks you.
>>
>>59245985

>>
What is a good alternative to Gmail?

Microphone recordings and analyzed screenshots are used for that, too.
