MacBook owner here, there are a few alternatives but none of them are great

spectre x360:
>new models are more expensive than the Mac and have mixed reviews
>old models have a pentile display
>doesn't compete with build quality and trackpad

dell XPS 13:
>webcam points up nose
>really bad build quality
>bad trackpad

And let's not forget Windows scaling issues among other things. The main problem is that the two non-Mac offerings are going to be shitpiles about a year after purchase whereas the Mac will still be a sexy, sturdy little machine, trucking along and servings its purpose. In fact, our school district is still using ancient Macbook Airs, and despite what the kids put them through, they're still trucking along, serving their purpose.

Lots of bias and retardation in these threads. See also: >>59237657
>hurdur we can have muh chink cellphone threads and thinkpad thread 24-7 but if you talk about a Mac it's spam
This is why people post the "you can't afford it" meme, because it's true for about half of you and for the rest of you it's still a good troll. This board is full of unintelligent children who both hate themselves and have huge egos—it's really weird, honestly.

i have an xps 15 right now. (3 days in)

battery life is definitely not comparable to my rMBP 15. The keyboard and trackpad are better on the mbp too. The xps trackpad is total shit. The screens aren't super comparable, each good in their own way. I like having a touch screen for onenote which is why I got it in the first place. I'm still not sure if I'll keep this thing. Windows 10 is a steaming pile of shit. I bought this xps direct from Dell and it has a slight warp in the case and some bad sound interference from the headphone jack.

I really expected the xps to be a mbp killer but I'm not convinced anymore.

Why even bring that up with the recent 'scandal' about short battery life due to broken Apple software?

I would get one though if they came with matte screens and decent keyboards and of course after I gave early adopters six months to beta test for me.

Paying $1300 for a laptop that is not workstation class is stupid. It's retarded. It's idiotic. It's moron.

I don't have a word for how poor of a choice this is. You are getting ripped off. You don't need it for what you're going to do with it.

Do not spend more than $300 on a laptop unless you can give a very specific reason why you need to. A specific usage scenario. And even then I bet you don't really need it.

You do realize Apple has some of the best customer support in the world, right? And that MacBooks are known to last (and retain their value) for 5+ years?

But say something does break in 3 years. That situation is likely to play out as:

>Hey Apple, my MacBook is broken, and my AppleCare expired last year

>Really, Anon? That's no problem, we'll go ahead and fix it free of charge, because you are such a loyal customer

And that's not to mention the people that have gotten free replacements for their machines.

With the XPS 15 you're getting a much better deal, a Kaby quad i7 + GTX 1050ti for what, 1899? The 15 inch retina starts at $2399 (lmao) and gives you a Radeon 450, Skylake quad i7 and only 256GB of storage.

Trackpoints are fucking shit.

It goes like this Apple trackpad > external mouse > Windows trackpad > track ball >smartphone app for controlling mouse and > GUI navigation with keyboard > using your scrotum against a touchscreen laptop > shouting at your keyboard > prayer to 4th century pagan deity asking for cursor movement > Trackpoint

Sorry, I find my truck even more useful than some benz coupe/sedan. It hauls a lot more and can haul that over fairly rough terrain.
M50x is the top-tier of headphones at the price I'm willing to pay for headphones (no more than $200)

Ive been wearing the same style (neutral color t-shirts or button-up shirts, jeans or black slacks, boots or dress shoes) for 5 years and the last time I bought any clothes it was a pair of Deer Stag loafers and a couple of no-name carpenter jeans. That was September 2016.

You guys are fucking retarded buying these used thinkpads. Some sellers were caught advertising their eBay pages of the think pads here on/g/ a few years ago.

Chromebook is a good option for a laptop. A few chromebooks, you can expand the internal storage and it is very Linux friendly.

I bought a Surface Pro 3, i5 4300u 256gb storage and 8gb RAM, for $449 on Amazon. It was even cheaper on newegg. These were refurbished models. The Surface Pro I received was in perfect condition except it came with a designer sticker cover that I easily pulled off.

I'm waiting to see how the review of the X1C is and then waiting for the WQHD version to come out in June. The specs and price on the Spectre seem nice, and the design is pretty nice too, but aesthetically I really only like Thinkpads of MBPs. If the MBP didn't have such a crappy keyboard now, I probably would have gone with it.

My 2008 MBP was stolen a few years ago and I never replaced it, so I've just stuck with my desktop and then used the computers at work, but I'm missing having a laptop recently.

Maybe people can afford them but don't buy them because they suck. And the thinkpad threads tend to be people talking about them because they like them. Any of those people know there are laptops that beat an old thinkpad though they may have a decent argument when talking price/performance/longevity if you buy an old workhorse from ebay. Mainly because price can go so low. But they don't think they're wonder laptops. I get the opposite impression from mac threads where people usually claim no other laptops of similar price compare which has been proven false repeatedly. I did the same exact thing last year. Found the closest thing to a Windows rMBP replacement I could. I tried to like the XPS 15. I really tried. 3 months in, I sold it and bought a 2015 rMBP. Windows 10 is the fucking WORST. Battery life sucks a dick, the trackpad sucks and entire bag of dicks. Although I don't think there's anything remotely close to a MacBook Pro trackpad in existence. The rest of the features were alright I suppose. Build quality was mediocre. Not as bad as a Walmart special but definitely not what I expected for MacBook-level prices.

Comfy-Level 10,000 of MacBook Pro's is absolutely not just a meme. There just isn't anything like it. I wish there was.

The 2016 design refresh is the bee's knee's. I'm waiting until the next update to get one. Apple is seriously lagging in their dedicated graphics offering. Supposedly that's coming this year along with Skylake but who the fuck knows.

One of the best and most overlooked perks of MacBooks is how unbelievably well they retain their value. You can buy now and most likely recoup 75% of the price next year even with a new model out. Try doing that with any other laptop on the market.

but not have the red pad of the godness.

KEK

The funny thing is even the dumbest neckbeard is 10x smarter than your dumb faggot ass.

Oh and good luck coping with the unspeakable buyer's remorse you'll have pretty soon.....that is if there's even a shred of intelligence left in your tiny brain. If not, then you'll keep sucking Applel cock like a good little faggot cuck boy.

Have fun faggot

>Maybe people can afford them but don't buy them because they suck.
Or because they're contrarian hipsters trying to live vicariously through their plastic consumer toys, since most people who can afford them do buy them and obviously have no problem with them.

>And the thinkpad threads tend to be people talking about them because they like them.
And what, everything else is just shills? Could you not say the same of ThinkPad threads since there are lots of resellers who would love nothing more than to convince a bunch of middle-income hipsters to move their inventory of ancient shit nobody else wants?

Thinkshitters are fucking annoying, and this is coming from a guy who likes and collects them with a 6ft bookshelf's worth of them.

Yeah I can afford your "le rich people only" computer shit.

Luckily I sold it to some dumb cunt on Amazon for only fifty bucks less than what I paid for the piece of shit. But no I'm the absolute fucking opposite of jealous, I consider myself lucky to have woken the fuck up before it was too late and become an Appledrone cuck like yourself

You must have missed the part where I said "some dumb cunt" you seriously think a sane person would pay near msrp for a 4 month old CuckBook Pro? Oh wait, I forgot I was talking to an Apple cuck, of course people like you think that's a great deal kek

Anyways I'm done arguing with you faggots.

Just remember when you're walking through a library, successful business, grade school, college, government building etc.really anywhere REAL WORK gets done and notice which OS they're running and see it's either Windows or Linux, remember that you're the outsider, you're the special little snowflake faggot who thinks they're "too good" or too much of a "free thinker" to use the operating systems and true practical hardware that was designed not with faggotry and planned obsolescence in mind, but true innovation in mind, and then ask yourself if you really made the right choice whilst crying about how much money you've wasted on your Macfaggotry.............faggot

I think performance was upgraded well enough on the 2016 model to the point where the m3 option is actually viable for casual use now, but $1299 for m3 model is just too much. $1099 would be more reasonable

> Random people on the internet go on /g/ to shill old thinkpads hoping someone falls for it and goes on ebay to buy their particular thinkpad.

K dude
But the point of the post is that the "thinkshitters" know an old thinkpad has serious limitations and take those into account. Not so much coming from the macfags. And the "people just like them" line was poorly stated but it just means their attachment to thinkpads becomes taste at a point and most know this. One can attack taste but its a hard thing to do because taste isn't really logical. And that's ok. If a macfag just goes "fuck it, i like it!" there really isn't much to be said. But they usually don't do that. They say there isn't anything on the market which beats a mac pro for its price. That isn't taste, its just wrong.
>>
>>59261849
show the price too you fucking 7agg0t. 5k dell monitor is more expensive than an all-in-one computer with 5k screen which is imac.
