I don't think IRC isn't simple, but if you take a random person and try and show it to them they will more likely disagree.

The best part is how people claim to love it for text chat but they don't even have a good working in game overlay to chat like you can with pretty much everything else. Even fucking xfire had this feature back in the early 2000s

All games have in game text chat, no one is saying they like discord's in game overlays. They're talking about messaging in their discord server if they don't have mic functionality, or if they're autistic and don't want to talk to people. It's one of the few programs that doesn't have a cluster fuck of a UI and can let you navigate through servers to type without having to leave one or to even login to one.

I thought it was great until I realized it has no purpose. It's very redundant. Sure, it does more than Steam chat, but you can use DM why have a server?

Most servers I've joined, it ends up being two people that always contribute so much that they might as well DM. Plus, you can't really contribute because the tone is set.

I don't know. Just realized it's dumb and deleted it. What it does is amazing, but it's too much of a good thing. We'll see how it goes, but $50 or whatever a year is a bit stupid. Maybe being able to create a free server offsets that, but you can do that for free as it is.
