latitudes were not heavy metal since the early 2000s, it varied. I had a D630 and E6400 and both were dogshit

the D630 roasted themselves, dell replaced initially then did mandatory bios updates that made the fans go crazy to delay the failure of the nvidia discrete graphics until after warranty. the thermal consequences caused massive throttling.

the e6400 were also inadequate thermally and had shit hinges, a shit keyboard, etc

Latitudes are shit and i have used more recent latitudes (can't recall the model, but a customer gave me a latitude in 2014). it was somewhat better, but it was not an equal to most thinkpads (SL series is not really a thinkpad) in build quality.

I bought an new E7450 for $700. 1080p, touchscreen (not that I use it), 16gb ram, 256gb ssd, i5-5300U, nice rubber back cover and heavy to make it feel solid and durable. 8hr battery life with usage, keyboard is great. Replaced the preinstalled W10 with linux and it's amazing.

I was looking at chinkpads, saw a T450 for the same price, except coming with a shitty 1366x768 non touch TN screen, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd... A T460 with a 1080p screen would have been $1100+. The choice was easy, really.

I have a 4000 dollar 7710 from my work. The trackpad has a fucking deadspot in it. On Windows 10 the automatically installed trackpad drivers fucking crash. If you try to use the Dell(TM) thunderbolt Ethernet adapter it crashes and bluescreens your computer. Dell is fucking garbage, hardware and software.

For example, you could scroll infinitely at a constant pace in okular by grabbing the document and tilting the trackpoint was it not for the recalibration. Though the recalibration is kind of needed.

Had around 10 of OP pic for work, to set up. They are pretty damn good, but some weren't put through quality control. The ones that fid work OOTB with no issues were perfect.

With that in mind, I didn't take one because I have the e5450, previous model. After working with them all I noticed the plastic was less thick. Just wish I had that 1080 screen.

Currently running Fedora getting 6-8 hours use, upgraded storage and RAM. Better than my x220.

So at the end what is better to buy: dell or thinkpad?
