"training an algorithm with vast amount of data until it makes accurate predictions" is not so appealing
You feed a computer program a whole bunch of data and it infers patterns from it.

You get accurate algorithms by using actual logic. Neural nets just make things that are slightly better than mashing your head on the keyboard because you can't wrap your head around a problem.
