Yo /g/ I've saved up about $4000 for a fucking epic PC build,

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Yo /g/ I've saved up about $4000 for a fucking epic PC build, no expenses spared.

So far, I'm thinking this:

ryzen 1800x = $550
2x gtx 1080 = $1200
Some asus a4 motherboard ≈ $250 max
512gb pcie ssd to start with
850W psu, gold ≈ $125
custom watercooling ≈ $850
16gb corsair dom platinum ram = $300 for now, may go 32 later
Some 4k 60hz monitor ≈ $500-600 for now, will buy the new asus 1440p 120hz one when it comes out later this year

Thoughts, especially on the GPU and CPU? Recommendations on things I haven't decided yet?

Note: I'm not getting the 1080ti's because that puts me $400 over budget. When ti comes out, 1080 prices will probably drop. Besides, I'm getting a soundcard, network card, and some customization too so I want to fit that in as well. Also pic not related

It doesn't matter what you buy. It will be obsolete by next year

how does watercooling cost you $860, wtf are you doing?

I mean I have water cooled CPU no GPU yet but i will do it, but even mine cost no more than $200.

Why are you so sure on a 1800x without any reviews or official benchmarks, if it isn't what its meant to be you might end up spending more on a i7

the 1080ti is 700 dollars, x2 is 1400, your current shitty 1080s are 1200, find the $200

no expenses spared, then you say $250 max for a motherboard.

why not get the best motherboard on the market which would be minimum 300-350.

What do you need the computer for?
>>
>>59191199

Screen ? There is no such thing as a good gaming 4k monitor.

Your best option is PG348Q for around 1200$
You need to calibrate it so save 200$ aside for a Spyder 5pro.

So you want a sound card ? Good idea since good sound is awesome. Xonar STX is great, you can also go for a "gaming" card like the strix but sound won't be better.

Headphones ? go for HD650 (or X650 from massdrop) Mic ? get dedicated separate mic with boom. Headsets are terrible.

Get 960evo NVMe ssd and 32Gb ram. also get a sata ssd 1to for games.

custom watercooling is useless. it's over your budget.

get only one 1080 and get 1080ti when it comes out. SLI is going the way of the DODO. You only need one GPU for 100HZ gaming.

don't fall for gaymer ram meme, return on investment is abysymal
>>
>>59191199
I built a custom loop with no reservoir, it works pretty good. I use a Y splitter to make a fill tube. I recommend this approach because it's more resilient when you move the case around and less evaporation means less refilling. I top it off about once a year when I hear bubbles.

I also used a PWM splitter from the CPU fan header to control the pump and all four fans. It's super quiet when idle. Works great even when the GPU is heavily loaded and the CPU isn't. The die temps are within a few degrees of each other no matter what the load distribution is.
>>
>>59191199
>2x gtx 1080 = $1200
REALLY bad time to be buying nvidia, especially two fucking 1080's
>>
>>59191951
>return on investment is abysymal
I mean, we're talking about a fucking gayming pc here m8, no matter how much you spend it's gonna be 100% loss
>>
>>59191244
tards will be tards, I have trouble thinking of a watercooling setup that would cost more than 500$ for 2 gpus, pump and reservoir big enough to act as a rad that you can dump ice into.
>>
>>59191989
Oh BTW the CPU fan header approach works best when your motherboard's BIOS gives you control over what temp readings correspond to what PWM duty cycles. My EVGA motherboard lets me configure 4 steps so I set it like this:

<35°C: 0% (totally passive cooling for low load)
35°C-45°C: 25%
45°C-55°C: 50%
55°C-65°C: 75%
>65°C: 100%

I wish it smoothly ramped between the values, instead it's really obvious when it kicks up or down a notch.

Check your fans and pump to see what the minimum RPM, and therefore PWM duty cycle is. Most require at least 20%-35% before they kick on at all.

these can typically be controlled by software as well, allowing for smooth speed adjustments, as well as decisions based on temperature /changes/ rather than just the immediate temperature
i use fancontrol in linux, which does these
>>
>>59192070
Samefagging again, here's the PWM splitter I use. It works way better than fan controllers, temperature probes, etc. Your CPU/motherboard have that stuff built in, use it.

Soundcard I would get a USB recording device. I have a fast track pro which can be had for like $30 on eBay. Something more modern is in the $200 range.

Nice because it will last a while, it's external which means you can adjust the volume on your desk. Switch from headphones to speakers with a knob. Has XLR inputs for a mic (bm800 is great if you want to look like a twitch twat with a giant mic but not spend hundreds of dollars to yell at kids and sound horrible)

The PCI gaming cards seem more of a gimmick to me. Use the Mobo soundcard if you want to use fancy driver enhancements. I didn't care / think it was appealing enough and switched back to the maudio on my new build.

Considering this maudio has lasted me close to 10 years it was a pretty good investment. Would be nice if it had XLR outputs and not just trs but whatever's same shit at the end of the day

Nice, that sounds like a good way to do it. I think my BIOS method has benefits too, like working correctly during boot, while installing an OS, while booted into recovery or single user mode, etc. It would suck for the pump/fans to be on 100% during those things because it's pretty dang loud.

Spending that much on SSD is just throwing money away. That shit will be a fraction of the cost in a year.

Makes more sense to do raid with a bunch of drives if you want fast reads and lots of storage.

Only time spending that much on a SSD makes sense is when your application is hitting the limit of reads and you're throwing SSD shit in raid.

4K$ isn't that much money honestly. If you want a decent setup, you won't have much money left for customisations and meme watercooling.

If you really want to shell 8-900$ on watercooling and customisations (like sleeved power cables) you will have to sacrifice on performance and peripherals. HTere is no good screens under 800$

Congratulations, and you're doing this for what again? Oh that's right, you haven't actually sat down and listed the things that satisfy the criteria below:

a) graphically demanding;
b) good;
c) you're actually gonna play instead of just impulse buying alongside hundreds of steam games you aren't ever gonna touch.

Face it, the reason why you're getting this urge is because you're trying to distract yourself from some problem or the lack of something in your life. You're just trying to fill a hollow point of your life by basically throwing money at it. You don't actually need nor want this, you're not going to play anything on it. I mean, what even is there to play that needs this retarded build? Witcher 3? Assassin's Creed? Some other random casualized, streamlined, handholdy AAA garbage pandering to the lowest common denominator that would be better watched on youtube or just skipped altogether since they have no gameplay value whatsoever?

From the way you speak about the 1080ti it means you're not rich, but rather some delluded fella who is about to pour his life savings into some massive money pit that won't improve your life at all. Can you even list anything in the future that is coming out? Can you even list anything that you WANT and you know that you are ACTUALLY going to play on this thing?

Just get a ps4 or whatever and play some games once in a while, at least you can play things with actual production values behind them instead of Steam's latest indie shovelware or begging for ports. Invest the money in something that is actually worth it, and not some shitty hobby that is in its worst form since the 90s and face whatever you're trying to run away from by distracting yourself.
>>
>>59193813

If adding in aesthetics that's not unreasonable. Each water block is like $100ish, so that's automatically $300. $100+ for reservoir and pump combo. Fans, fittings, tubing, liquid if any special coolant, and/or GPU backplates all add cost quickly.
