What video card is going to work best with a Vega cpu?
I am aiming to spend about $400-500 on a video card. I am assuming an AMD gpu is better for an AMD processor like it always has been.
What get?

It would actually be nice if AMD GPU drivers used some SIMD only present on AMD CPUs for higher performance, now I don't know what part of the drivers would be worth it to vectorize but there might be something..
Problem is,if they do this then the drivers won't Install on competing chips without that SIMD support.

Two driver stacks, but a nightmare to maintain.
If AMD had more people and money this might be possible.

Ryzen*
I was reading some information on Vega before I posted.

But I normally buy Intel.
>>59172054
uh what? Intel and AMD CPUs use the same SIMD instructions. There is nothing exclusive.

Some lower end Intel CPU don't support AVX, TSX.
Older CPUs certainly don't either.
There are also vendor specific instructions like FMA4.

For me the winner combo has been always Intel CPU and AMD GPU.

What you use AVX for is the same thing you'd use the GPU for to do more efficiently: hair and cloth physics, etc.
I don't think we'll see AVX used much. Maybe a bit. AVX2 and AVX512 way less.
AVX is already supported by 74% on steam hardware surveys. There are more processors that are dual core than don't support AVX.

I knew a guy who thought he needed an MSI graphic card to work with his MSI motherboard.

Intel can't 3dnow or FMA4
AMD can't AVX512
>>59173505
lol dude... 3dnow is just a precursor to SSE, which is widely used.
And AVX512 can't be used to speed up more because it'll suck up too much power and put out too much heat. You use the GPU for doing 512bit float math.

Graphic drivers are 300mb pieces of shit, they're probably already over 10M SLOC, they handle everything from power management, I/O, memory management and scheduling .
There's bound to be some place in that gigantic pile of legacy crap that would benefit from modern SIMD
>>59173876
the core of drivers aren't honestly that huge.
its the config GUIs and the game-specific patches (= optimized shader replacements) that take up all the fucking space.
