Glad I held off for ryzen this pc is some motherboard from 2009 with a bulldozer thrown in. It used to have a x6 1100t but recent programs require AVX. I think the motherboard + ram + cpu cost me $500 in back in 2010 so it's been 7 years with only gpu and storage upgrades.

Totally ridiculous it took 7 years for an upgrade that can double performance without being 4x as expensive.

A phenom with a die shrink and new instructions would have beaten bulldozer badly. I have no idea what they were thinking. I think 12 phenom cores at 32nm would fit on a bulldozer die as well.
>>
>>59160070
Well, you'd need to find an extra 35% performance to draw level, so you'd be looking at 5.3GHz for parity if you're at 3.9GHz now. And that's assuming perfect scaling between clock speed and performance, which usually isn't the case.

Either way, the perf/clock performance decrease is ridiculous. AMD fucked up so badly.

It's been in development since Bulldozer, that's not a valid argument.

You know just how shit those APUs are, if you could have upgraded a year and a half ago, you would've too.

Not to mention, since I have a microcenter nearby my 5820k cost me under $300.
>>
>>59162283
>Cinebench seems pretty useless as a performance benchmark
Not if you do rendering, compiling and simulations. Nothing ever offered enough more power to justify upgrading. Take my 7 year old x1100 / bulldozer PC for example, The motherboard, cpu and ram probably cost me $500 Australian dollars. The 8 core i7 can give me about twice the performance but the CPU motherboard and ram would cost around $2000 Australian dollars. $2000 to beat a 7 year old $500 PC by 100% is not very enticing.

Before intel fucked everything up I use to buy a new PC every 18 months at most.

Don't feel like running Cinebench since I'm extracting something.
Multi-threaded score was 792 on a stock 4790 last I tested.

I also have an i5 3570k.

4.7GHz with decent cooling and assuming your chip is on the better half of the scale.

it's about 50/50 of chips that can hit 4.7GHz without breaking 1.35v
