if you have common ports open (http, ssh, that sort of thing), you risk getting DoS'd at the least
if someone really doesn't like you and you're running something with known exploits, you could just get attacked by some script kiddy -- but this is fairly unlikely (also, there's risk just being on the internet in general in that case)
