I'm planning on double majoring in CS and Mathematics and becoming a software engineer. Is the extra math superfluous and should I drop it? What does /g/ think?

do finance and cs. the extra math is superfluous
the extra math is a waste, just do a business minor if you're going to force yourself to do more work
Some schools allow you to double major with only 1 or 2 additional math classes. Not saying it would be super helpful, but it might look good on your resume to have 2 undergrad majors at <25 years old.

What uni do you go to?
Math's useless, from one point getting a degree opens gates, from the other point, the ammount of time spent in useless topics is rather not ok. It's completely useless, i don't want a hobby, i should be learning...
>studying mathematics for a job
I'm working on my PhD in math and let me tell you right now, you learn very little "real world" stuff. My job prospects aren't shit but they certainly aren't as good as an undergrad with CS + Statistics or CS + Finance fresh out of college with an industry internship under their belt.
I'm going to be done when I'm 30. That kid is done at 22.
If you want a job, don't be me, and don't major in math.

ofcourse not nigga what the fuck are you doing?
get a CS degree and a shit tier business/management degree to learn how real life shit works and that's that.

Yeah, it would be some extra effort, but it would only be the difference between graduating after 4 years instead of 3 and a half. (I'm 18 btw)

Go with statistics instead of math; big data is a big deal

University of Minnesota

cs + finance combo jobs will get fully automated in ~7 years(especially high paying ones), straight programming will start to suffer too
if you have machine learning classes take that, if you really want double major do physics (unless you are truly passionate about math)/ or some neuroscience if you don't suck absolute dick in high school biology

>it would be super helpful, but it might look good on your resume to have 2 undergrad majors at <25 years old.
>having two majors and no experience, thus creating a situation where you can't get a job because all your potential employers will think you're either asking for more money or leaving for a better offer, is good for you
Kill yourself.
