So this just popped up while browsing on some random site (game modding site).

I am using Google DNS instead of the default comcast.

What tricks are they using to inject this javascript in the browsing session? They used to do it via DNS injection, but how are they doing this now?

not trump as its been going for a few years now.

but net neutrality is the biggest cause. It calls for an ISP monopoly stronger than it was before, but not as bad as we thought it would become. ISP's before were talking about selling "fast lanes" and "hyper fast lanes" where they just limit your bandwidth unless you pay up more.

But yea, fuck comcast, and chances are there are no affordable+good competitors at the same price range due to the territorial thing.

>In order to clearly highlight risk to the user, starting this month in Firefox 51 web pages which collect passwords but don’t use HTTPS will display a grey lock icon with a red strike-through in the address bar.
>To continue to promote the use of HTTPS and properly convey the risks to users, Firefox will eventually display the struck-through lock icon for all pages that don’t use HTTPS, to make clear that they are not secure. As our plans evolve, we will continue to post updates but our hope is that all developers are encouraged by these changes to take the necessary steps to protect users of the Web through HTTPS.

Yes, more red tape, so we will certainly never have any competition in the isp market. The market is already so fucked up from red tape and comcast and att bribing local communities to not let competators lay cables. Only way to fix this is cut legislation and put YUGE fines or even arrests (preferable) for anti competative bribing that protects their monopoly. Tellin comcast they have to shaee the wire they own and not address the system that stops others from laying wire is not a solution.

The biggest myth of all in this regard is the notion that telephone service is a natural monopoly. Economists have taught generations of students that telephone service is a "classic" example of market failure and that government regulation in the "public interest" was necessary. But as Adam D. Thierer recently proved, there is nothing at all "natural" about the telephone monopoly enjoyed by AT&T for so many decades; it was purely a creation of government intervention."[54]

Once AT&T's initial patents expired in 1893, dozens of competitors sprung up. "By the end of 1894 over 80 new independent competitors had already grabbed 5 percent of total market share … after the turn of the century, over 3,000 competitors existed.[55] In some states there were over 200 telephone companies operating simultaneously. By 1907, AT&T's competitors had captured 51 percent of the telephone market and prices were being driven sharply down by the competition. Moreover, there was no evidence of economies of scale, and entry barriers were obviously almost nonexistent, contrary to the standard account of the theory of natural monopoly as applied to the telephone industry.[56]
>>
>>59152670
How do they determine deaths from war if Somalia has no central government, therefore hasn't got an army, therefore there's no distinction between military death and civilian death and all parties engaging in a conflict are civilians?

If I get shot by a stray bullet during a firefight between two niggers is my death counted as death from war or just regular homicide?
>>
>>59152699
The eventual creation of the telephone monopoly was the result of a conspiracy between AT&T and politicians who wanted to offer "universal telephone service" as a pork-barrel entitlement to their constituents. Politicians began denouncing competition as "duplicative," "destructive," and "wasteful," and various economists were paid to attend congressional hearings in which they somberly declared telephony a natural monopoly. "There is nothing to be gained by competition in the local telephone business," one congressional hearing concluded.[57]

The crusade to create a monopolistic telephone industry by government fiat finally succeeded when the federal government used World War I as an excuse to nationalize the industry in 1918. AT&T still operated its phone system, but it was controlled by a government commission headed by the postmaster general. Like so many other instances of government regulation, AT&T quickly "captured" the regulators and used the regulatory apparatus to eliminate its competitors. "By 1925 not only had virtually every state established strict rate regulation guidelines, but local telephone competition was either discouraged or explicitly prohibited within many of those jurisdictions."

Cable television is also a franchise monopoly in most cities because of the theory of natural monopoly. But the monopoly in this industry is anything but "natural." Like electricity, there are dozens of cities in the United States where there are competing cable firms. "Direct competition … currently occurs in at least three dozen jurisdictions nationally."[47]

"The theory of natural monopoly is an economic fiction. No such thing as a 'natural' monopoly has ever existed."
The existence of longstanding competition in the cable industry gives the lie to the notion that that industry is a "natural monopoly" and is therefore in need of franchise monopoly regulation. The cause of monopoly in cable TV is government regulation, not economies of scale. Although cable operators complain of "duplication," it is important to keep in mind that "while over-building an existing cable system can lower the profitability of the incumbent operator, it unambiguously improves the position of consumers who face prices determined not by historical costs, but by the interplay of supply and demand."
>>
>>59152748
Also like the case of electric power, researchers have found that in those cities where there are competing cable companies prices are about 23 percent below those of monopolistic cable operators.[49] Cablevision of Central Florida, for example, reduced its basic prices from $12.95 to $6.50 per month in "duopoly" areas in order to compete. When Telestat entered Riviera Beach, Florida, it offered 26 channels of basic service for $5.75, compared to Comcast's 12channel offering for $8.40 per month. Comcast responded by upgrading its service and dropping its prices.[50] In Presque Isle, Maine, when the city government invited competition, the incumbent firm quickly upgraded its service from only 12 to 54 channels.[51]

In 1987 the Pacific West Cable Company sued the city of Sacramento, California on First Amendment grounds for blocking its entry into the cable market. A jury found that "the Sacramento cable market was not a natural monopoly and that the claim of natural monopoly was a sham used by defendants as a pretext for granting a single cable television franchise … to promote the making of cash payments and provision of 'in-kind' services … and to obtain increased campaign contribution."[52] The city was forced to adopt a competitive cable policy, the result of which was that the incumbent cable operator, Scripps Howard, dropped its monthly price from $14.50 to $10 to meet a competitor's price. The company also offered free installation and three months free service in every area where it had competition.
>>
>>59152764
Still, the big majority of cable systems in the U.S. are franchise monopolies for precisely the reasons stated by the Sacramento jury: they are mercantilistic schemes whereby a monopoly is created to the benefit of cable companies, who share the loot with the politicians through campaign contributions, free air time on "community service programming," contributions to local foundations favored by the politicians, stock equity and consulting contracts to the politically well connected, and various gifts to the franchise authorities.

In some cities, politicians collect these indirect bribes for five to ten years or longer from multiple companies before finally granting a franchise. They then benefit from part of the monopoly rents earned by the monopoly franchisee. As former FCC chief economist Thomas Hazlett, who is perhaps the nation's foremost authority on the economics of the cable TV industry, has concluded, "we may characterize the franchising process as nakedly inefficient from a welfare perspective, although it does produce benefits for municipal franchiser."[53] The barrier to entry in the cable TV industry is not economies of scale, but the political price-fixing conspiracy that exists between local politicians and cable operators.

>Why did you plebs chose to live there again ?
People don't choose to live in the rural areas 99% of the time. There's still more people moving from rural areas to urban centers than the other way around. Most people live in rural areas because they were born there.

And of course somewhere with newer infrastructure will have better infrastructure than somewhere that has old infrastructure that needs to be gradually upgraded so that people's service isn't disrupted.

I'm sure places like India and Africa will have faster internet in the future because their infrastructure will be even newer.

>>59152898
Basically you cant run a web server on a standard port. You would have to run it on other port and type yourdomain.tld:5990 for example or whatever port you would use.

No idea why amerilard ISP wants to block fucking port 80, like its bad or something

Cox is great. Probably the best cable ISP.

Do they really put a cap on your internet in burgerland? Here in mexico i pay the equivalent of 40 dollars a month to the most jewish company here an enjoy unlimited internet at 512-600 kb speed plus they give you a netflix clone for latinoamerican content for free or the real netflix for an extra 5 dollars, and yes i've tested it has no cap since i download a fuckload of anime overnight, this almost makes up for the constant muggings and risking getting beheaded by a 12 year old druggie over your cellphone.

Depends on the provider.

America is big. ISPs are ran by Jews. Fixing the old infrastructure would cost them more money than it's worth. Could they eventually, and easily, do it city-by-city for the next few years? Definitely. Will they? Not unless absolutely mandated by a form of power--the government, and they just put a pajeet pile of trash in charge of the FCC. The internet in America is likely to only get worse from here, not better.

How does the XFINITY Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan work?

The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan is a new data usage plan for XFINITY Internet service that provides you with a terabyte (1 TB or 1024 GB) of Internet data usage each month as part of your monthly service. If you choose to use more than 1 TB in a month, we will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional fee of $10 each. Your charges, however, will not exceed $200 each month, no matter how much you use. And, we're offering you two courtesy months, so you will not be billed the first two times you exceed a terabyte. This data plan is based on a principle of fairness. Those who use more Internet data, pay more. And those who use less Internet data, pay less.

It is important to know that more than 99 percent of our customers do not use a terabyte of data and are not likely to be impacted by this plan, so they can continue to stream, surf, and download without worry.

For customers who use a terabyte or more in a month, we also offer an Unlimited Data Option. The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional fee of $50 per calendar month. The fee is independent of actual data usage. The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.
>>
>>59146498
Can I get Unlimited Data?

Yes. First you should check your individual usage here – 99 percent of our customers don’t use more than a terabyte a month, but for the less than 1 percent of our customers who use a terabyte in a month, we want to make sure you understand your options and choose the data usage plan that works best for you. Our data plans are based on a principle of fairness. Those who use more Internet data, pay more. And those who use less Internet data, pay less. For those customers who use more than a terabyte a month, we offer an Unlimited Data Option.

The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional fee of $50 per calendar month. The fee is independent of actual data usage. The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

Enrollment and cancellation go into effect on the first day of the subsequent calendar month.

As a reminder, data usage plans do not apply to Comcast Business Internet customers, customers on Bulk Internet agreements, and customers with Prepaid Internet, or to XFINITY Internet customers on our Gigabit Pro tier of service.

Courtesy Months

We’ll provide you with two courtesy months, so you will not be billed the first two times you exceed a terabyte while you are getting used to the new data usage plan. This means that you will only be subject to overage charges if you use more than a terabyte for a third time in a 12-month period. If you use more than a terabyte two times or less in a 12-month period, your courtesy month balance will reset to two at the end of these 12 months. However, if you use more than a terabyte three times in a 12-month period, no more courtesy months will be given.

Where should I start...

Europe is small and densely populated.

In the US, there are large areas with only a few people. West and East coasts are well served by internet, but the middle of the country, and rural zones, are abandoned. Infrastructure existing there is no longer maintained, it is being used until it breaks. It applies to Internet, to roads being converted from asphalt to gravel, to public libraries closing, you name it.

Even in the large cities, blight is blooming. The US airports are a joke. Basic education is far from adequate. Colleges are a scam to milk and indenture serfs for life.

Property taxes and city bankruptcies are spreading.

Most new jobs available are part time and/or low paying.

There are financial bubbles in shale ant tech companies.

During the last few years, most growth in US economy came from shale operations, which have a fast depletion rate. Think of the Red Queen running ever faster just to keep up.

With the flood of natural gas from shale, it is practically free. Coal power plants are being decommissioned everywhere, and being replaced by ones that use natural gas. When depletion starts to bite hard, things will get ugly fast. And idiots keep investing on these companies. Bankruptcies in this sector are raising. This will not end well.

Most tech companies are not profitable. Irrational exuberance comes to mind.

America is slowly, but surely, crumbling. It is not as good as you think it is.

Remember: "Make America great again" means that it is no longer great. The person who dared to point this, Captain Obvious Maximus, won the election.

TL;DR fucked up internet in fucked up country
