You Should Definitely Upgrade To The Brand New Intel(tm) i7(c) 7700K !

I Promise !

I was going to buy Ryzen at launch, so sold my 6700K a couple of weeks ago. I've been questioning what the fuck I'll actually use it for though, so bought another 1090T to tide me over while I consider whether I want to spend all that money or not.

At least this one is stable at 4GHz/1.45V. My old one couldn't do 4GHz, even at 1.5V (where I gave up).

Early 90s: Intel 286 (IBM 80286 pc)
1997: AMD K6 200 mhz (IBM Aptiva)
2001: Intel Celeron 800 Mhz (Dell L800CXE)
2004: Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz (Dell inspirion 1100 Laptop)
2005: Opteron-170 2.0 Ghz (Server build,still in service)
2005: Opteron-185 2.6Ghz (Gaming pc build, still have though not used)
2008: AMD Athlon x2 6000 3.0Ghz (Built to replace both the Dell L800cxe and Gaming pcs)

2007/8: Intel Celeron cpu (2nd laptop, still use)

Spare cpu bin:

Had fun with MSX-2, XT, 286 ps/2 that weren't mine in mid 90s
Pentium 150 OC to 166 was the first one I owned in 96
K6-II 450 OC to 550
Celeron 866 (I think) I got for free when relatives threw away their old pc, later swapped to Tualatin 1133 I also got used for cheap that fit into the same MB with minor hack to get around intel jewelry
Athlon 64 X2 4000
i5-2500 I'm still on right now
Going by that pattern I guess memezen is next, but I'm still good for a year or two unless intel rolls out the secret tech they've been brewing over the years that will btfo amd and makes upgrade worth it once again

There is a lot of overlap. I am probably missing several.

MOS6502 (Tangerine ORIC-1)
MOS6510 (Commodore 64)
Motorola 68000 (Atari 520STFM, 1040STe)
Intel 80386 (PC)
Acorn ARM2 (Acorn Archimedes, "arc")
Intel 80486 (PC)
Motorola 68030 (Atari Falcon030)
Motorola 68040 (extremely souped-up Atari Falcon)
Intel Pentium 75 (PC, "lardarse", complete dog of a machine)
AMD Engineering Sample "Thoroughbred" AHDA2200AKV3C (there's a story here, suffice to say not everything free is worth the price you paid for it - but it was fantastic for about 2 years)
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ "Venice" (absolute workhorse, retired only last year)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ "Toledo"
Intel Core 2 Duo (in a laptop)
Intel Pentium G620 (an emergency)
Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 (phone)
Intel Core i5-3570K
Intel Celeron G1610T (homeserver)
Intel Xeon E3-1220L v2 (homeserver, replaced above)
Intel Xeon E3-1225 v2 (mailserver)
Broadcom BCM2835 (raspi 1)
Broadcom BCM2836 (2)
Broadcom BCM2837 (3)
Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (phone)
Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 (phone)
Intel Xeon E5-2630L v3 (mainserver)
Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 (buildbox)

Shortly: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, and possibly a Naples unless Intel pull their finger out

Judging by his list (Tangerine ORIC-1), he's probably a real big boy, a computer scientist or mathematician or something, who does a lot of scientific calculations with multiple threads 24/7. If that's the case, it's likely that the Ryzen would be far better for him than your 7700k would be.

Intel Pentium 4 541 HT
Intel Pentium E2180 2.8GHz
Intel Pentium E5200 2.5 GHz - the one I use to this day

No upgrades. I replaced the old GT210 GPU with a R7 240 I got for free (legit) and it runs pretty nice.

mfw that i7 laptop is faster than the desktop
>>
List not in order as I'm an electronics collector.
tl:dr
Current Laptop
i7-4810MQ 4Ghz OC
Current Desktop (Unused anyway)
AMD Athlon X4 at an unknown frequency, hefty overclock though.
Current Servers
Core i7-3770
Intel Atom C2550 2.41Ghz
Previous and currently owned stations.
(1) 4x Pentium III 700Mhz (Dell Poweredge)
(2) 2x AMD Athlon CPU's 1.3Ghz (Custom Servers)
(1) AMD Athlon 64 X2 with massive overclock. Old gaming rig, Glorious Nvidia GT8600. Water cooling along with extra fans.
(1) Intel 486 DX (Toshiba Laptop)
(1) Intel 386 Unknown barebones PC. Missing math co-processor so no loonix joke server here. :/
(6) Various Intel Pentium 4 boxes all with Socket 478.
(Unknown amount, it's alot) Celerons and Pentium 3's all using socket 370
(1) Pentium Pro.
(3-7) Pentium II.
(1) Amd Athlon in slot A
(unknown) Various Socket 775 PC's using Pentium D's and Celeron's
(unknown) I probably have 30-50 cell phones laying around. Only 5 of them contain any recent processor and run Android. Probably a lot of various processors in them... I mean that doesn't count but whatever.
(1) Apple computer, has a giant G3 processor in it, it's a space heater for my shed. Plug in and turn on.
Multiple PII and PIII single processor servers.
Many laptops with their appropriate mobile chips. Core 2 duo, Pentium 4 Extreme, Pentium III 1.3Ghz, Pentium 1 66Mhz, AMD Phenom II X4 N970 2.2 Ghz (My laptop before my current one).

Looking for an upgrade? I'm planning on building a new server using Naples or the successor to Naples.
I'm planning on purchasing a Ryzen based laptop if one is made. No APU's please I want 8 full speed cores with 16 threads.

Best purchase from this was easily the Pentium II. Bought it in 97 or 98 and used it until 2008. Fully upgraded it didn't seem to age all that badly at all (outside of gaming).

Worst purchase was the 1156. While cheap and a good performer, buying into that fucking dead as shit socket put me off of Intel.

I seriously hope each and every one of these was out of necessity to upgrade other stuff, because otherwise I just don't see the point in this.

Hell, even to upgrade other stuff this seems like a bit much.
