Is BunsenLabs a good starter distro? It and Crunchbang are the only ones I've ever used and I'm thinking about partitioning a hard drive.

IMO, not really.
It's a really good second or third distro, after you've gotten your feet wet and know how to go about solving problems.
You really can't be afraid of the cli or editing config files, though it does hold your hand a little bit more in those things than some other distros.
