>he don't own a dual socket momyboard
What is your excuse /g/?
>>59114909
neither do you.
>>59114909
I had one but I sold it.
>>59114909
>>59114909
i just was thinking if they will release dual am4 for Ryzen™
>>59114909
I don't have money
>>59114909
Looks pretty boss but I can't justify spending that kind of money on vanity server since I can run compute on amazon whenever I need it.
>>59115000
Do it for the shitcons anonymous. Do it for Monero.
>>59114909
But i do...
>>59114909
>momy
It's MUMMY
>>59114909
not looking for house fire and I'd rather have an iGPU for Linux and my dedicated GPU for VM passthrough
>>59114909
But I do own a dual socket motherboard.
If you aren't doing something highly multithreaded, it's a waste of money. I'd argue it's even a waste of money for most workstations, even with highly threaded workloads, because no one configures the memory properly.
>>59114969
No, but dual socket Niples workstation with two 32c/64t
>>59114909
I like mini-ITX and dual socket boards are just so rare in that form factor
>>59115341
>so rare
Wait, there are dual processor mini ITX mobos?
>>59114909
All I do with my pc is shitposting, watch porn and the occasional gaymen.
No need for dual socket
>>59114909
what case is this?
>>59115574
Nope, the smallest board I personally know of that is dual-socket is a dual LGA 775 board Supermicro did.
And on the extreme other end there was that one Tyan dual-motherboard 8-socket monstrosity they cooked up for Socket 940 Opterons.
>>59115741
Fuck, dual LGA 771, and it was microATX.
>>59115574
There aren't many dual socket ATX motherboards (and those have severe compromises), so I doubt there are any dual socket boards in a smaller form factor.
>>59115741
>Tyan dual-motherboard 8-socket monstrosity they cooked up for Socket 940 Opterons.
Mirin.
I wonder how much /g/ street cred would I get with a system like that.
Do motherboards like this support typical consumer desktop hardware like GPUs and so forth?
>>59115827
You'd get 0.
>Do motherboards like this support typical consumer desktop hardware like GPUs and so forth?
If it's not built specifically for workstations there can be some features they lack compared to a normal desktop board, but they might not matter to you.
>>59115827
Usually, yes, but also have issues like the slow as fuck bios because mostly are server boards.
>>59114909
>>59114909
Yeah CPU SLI/Crossfire is more efficient
>>59115827
It does, the Master board for that system (Tyan S4881) has a pair of PCI-E x16 slots near the lower end of the board.
The problem with that 8 socket beast is its power requirements: You will need 2 PSUs each with 2 CPU-8pins and a 4 pin, one for the upper board one for the lower.
IMO though you'd be much better off getting a quad G34 board and loading that up with 12c CPU (as they're based on the Thuban die). There are 16C G34 processors, but those are Bulldozer/Piledriver.
Been and done it, it was fun and had some advantages but this one specifically had too many downsides. Now have a 4790k that outperforms it in most scenarios with less power draw and heat output.
>>59114909
I don't need dual CPU setup to watch anime and shitpost on /g/
>>59114909
I would if photoshop and lightroom took advantage of it
>>59115864
This. My server and workstation have the same amount of RAM in them and my workstation boots up in seconds while the server takes minutes.
>>59114909
>shitty server board
>not something actual workstation/enthusiast class like Skull Trail
>>59116411
>
>>59116045
this. i barely need my 4670k and crosfire setup to do that.
>>59116712
>GPU is 2 slot and covers PCIe x16 slot below it
>Several vGPUs setup
>Can't put in a quad 8Gb fiber card below
Feels like I'm wasting money if I can't occupy every slot on a workstation machine with something usable to the full bandwidth spec.
>>59117039
In what possible way could it be improved? It gives you every option possible.
>>59115284
>128 threads
for what purpose
Once they release Naples workstation boards I'll be interested in using one for my home server.
>>59117307
gcc.
>>59117039
>Feels like I'm wasting money if I can't occupy every slot on a workstation machine with something usable to the full bandwidth spec.
hopefully you don't run out of pcie lanes though
I do though
I have two 2620's
>>59117099
If there were decently priced external GPU solutions with multipathing I'd be game.
Would host all my dual slot stuff in a cage and keep single slot stuff on the board.
>>59117350
Dual socket 2011 ensures I have 40+40 of them.
>>59114909
I'm not a tryhard faggot.
>>59114909
one good proc and GPU is easier to manage for many applications if you're under a limited budget
>>59116712
>E-ATX
Sure am glad I bought my dual socket workstation. Is there even an E-ATX case that isn't fucking huge?
>>59117357
>2620s
My condolences.
>>59114909
the last one I had was a Pentium III with a pair of Slot 1 sockets.
>>59117307
CFD
How would I go about setting up a computer like this to be a shared workstation in my house?
>>59117307
FEA
>>59118019
Buy an HP workstation
Use a multi user OS
Install HP's remote graphics software
>>59117946
E-ATX is inherently huge, so no.
The SR-2 IIRC is even bigger and uses some semi-proprietary form factor for it.
>>59115226
this is some of the most advanced delusional autism i've seen on /g/
poor thing
