This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

>own a meme domain for my website that sometimes gets posted here by others
>set to expire next month
>unsure that I want to spend the money to renew it
>literally just a single anime webm with memesubs
Should I bother keeping it alive? Should I try to expand it in some way so that there's more than just a joke video, or will that ruin everything? Will our struggle against the botnet be worth it in the end?

Keep it dude, it's not like domains are super expensive.
>>
>>59113578
This one was $60 last year, and it's probably going to be around the same price this time around. I guess that .pizza domains are more expensive because businesses are the intended demographic and not memes.

there gotta a cheaper domain registar.

I did an analysis, this use actually counts as "fair use." If I could afford it, I'd have a real lawyer look at it and probably agree with me.
Though yes, I should give credit.

I don't have analytics or anything, just whatever default logging nginx does.
Glad you enjoy it, though.

How many hits/day? What are the most common user agents? Are people or bots trying to access pages that don't exist?
>>
>>59113949
I might take a look at that, thanks for the suggestion.
>>59113967
>How many hits/day?
Depends on whether or not it's been posted anywhere (sometimes it's posted somewhere besides 4chan, and it shows up in the referals) but a typical slow day where that doesn't appear to happen is 20. Otherwise, it can go over a few hundred, depending on how long the thread stays up.
>What are the most common user agents?
Mostly from Microsoft OS's but that could just be people spoofing their UA's... r-right? People don't use botnets to connect to my site, d-do they...?
>Are people or bots trying to access pages that don't exist?
Oh yeah, all the time. They think I'm using WordPress or something, or even any WRS.

Put up a Bitcoin address

Do you have a dedicated display to tail -f you logs?
>>
>>59114123
I was thinking of having a landing page after the video ends, perhaps with an explanation of nonfree javascript and why it's a problem, or perhaps to use the site as a host for a freedoms-respecting blog/art/writing/software/whatever I make.
>>59114156
I have a bash script to open my log whenever I feel like seeing if anyone's posted my site anywhere (also yes, I see you whoever that was.)
>>
>>59114188
Run ads
>>
>>59114255
I would have to find an ad service that doesn't require me to host nonfree javascript nor track my visitors beyond a reasonable amount (if such an amount exists), or I would have to manually add banners and take payments for it directly, but I don't know who'd be willing to pay for that.

Remember the old days, when we just said "do it, fagot!"?
That should be the spirit here, be proud of your work and what you accomplished even if it's small, because if you don't there's only regret left.

You can do it, anon.

Why? You underestimate /g/. This hobby is expensive. We have disposable income.

This website brings you no profit, this is pointless.
If you really wish to keep it, try finding a cheaper way of hosting it while also expanding the website to include software suggestions et cetera.
>>
>>59117418
I have no profit motive attached, but it still serves a purpose.
I host it myself and the only costs are the name & internet/electricity, for which I would pay anyway

Why not? Anyone who cares about avoiding the botnet is gonna have adblock on anyway.

>it's okay to give people botnets if they don't care
I want people to support me ethically if they want to, and encouraging them to run nonfree software is unethical.
