What does /g/ think about Matrix compatible messengers like Riot?

Can they succeed with at least the crowd that might use IRC, if not the crowd that would use WhatsApp and Skype and Facebook and all that proprietary privacy invasive trash?

Where I work at, we all just use Skype. Nobody is really happy with it, but it's not enough of a reason to make everyone switch to something else.
