Are we ever going to see a general purpose CPU that wasn't made by Intel or AMD?
VIA. But it's trash.
I think the market's reduced it to 2 for a reason, dunno how a 3rd could come into play.

You mean x86-64 right?
There are plenty of general purpose CPUs on other instruction sets.

yeap

>are we ever going to see a disjointed market of competing standards and features within the same ISA that only serve to make computing worse for developers and users alike?
No, thank god.
>>59103264
You mean like the a7 or a73 arm cores?
Yeh they already exist
>>59103264
Not until one collapses and IBM or china-generic rise. But we'll have a use for a while for cheap integrated graphics chipsets in low-end/IoT devices, which will come from Rockchip, Samsung, or Qualcomm (if and when they move to desktop grade).

Yep, just make a VIA build with a Matrox video card.

>Matrox video card
Don't they just rebrand amd chips these days?
>>59103559
Yeah, their last chip would be more than 10 years old now, technologically (they might have still done revisions I think, but architecture-wise they left of with Parhelia I think).
S3 actually made it farther with GPUs than Matrox, but also disappeared. I'd like to have one of those cards, it's a rarity.
