Are magnet links the culmination of file sharing technology or do we have ways to go?

Yes.

Magnet links are cool, but you still need a program on your PC to manage the linked torrent.
>>
Magnets are garbage and they're still poorly supported despite already existing when bittorrent was first released.

I miss the days when people shared whole directories and you'd use a search to find obscure files (ed2k/kad). Having to have the torrent or magnet active in your client is a pita. It's faster though and since shareratio was pretty much abandoned for torrents people started their secret ""scene"" invite clubs.

I'm interested to see where IPFS takes us. I still need to complain to developer-sama about it, for some reason raw ipfs paths are seen as spam when posting. Here's some hashes I'm hosting (not the author of).

I love the idea of flexible links to data/content, magnets were fantastic when they were new and things like IPFS hashes are looking like they'll be my new favorite because of their flexibility. You can link them to people whether they use ipfs or not, you can have files be named or not, you can index into subcontent through a standard path, and best of all since it's all content addressed there's no need to worry about swarms or metadata like with bittorrent.

Exciting future for p2p and addressing content.

Actually I think magnet links still trigger the spam filter too on every board except /t/.

Lets find out

Browsing what other people choose to share has always been a good time, you never know what you're gonna see.
