No, you literally have to recompile all of i3 yourself because the authors are autistic and don't include every possible parameter configuration in the config dotfile.

dwm is even worse in this regard, there's no config file at all and you really have to edit the source to change any settings at all.

IIRC you can change the i3status font from ~/.config/i3/config, just change it from whatever it is set to by default

the user guide says how to change the font:

Don't listen to this idiot it's possible, just go into the "bar" block and declare a different font. Super easy
