Security is not a field where you can do a bunch of exercises and tutorials and then you know it and you can go do a 9-to-5 job in it. You have to be interested in it. You have to have the right mindset. If you want to do it, start teaching yourself by doing it. You'll be completely lost for a long time, but if you're actually interested you'll keep going.

No, really. Go try and hack something. Play with shit. Set up some VMs and fuck around. Capture things in Wireshark. Reproduce published exploits. Write a keygen for some shitty Windows shareware. See if you can steal wi-fi from your neighbor. Don't wait for knowledge to be dispensed to you, go out and dig it up.
