Yeah i was looking at that one too. Need some review because i dont know shit about mobos except cheap ones
>>
i got the aorus gaming 5 because it supports the ram speed I want
>>
>>59069796
not going to get any decent reviews till mid-end of march probably
seems like a solid mid-range motherboard though, with M.2 slot and ASUS
>>
>>59069822
Idk someone will cover the mobo. There are only a couple out and people were giving different mobos to bench the cpu with i imagine
>>
>>59069822
we might get some of the Aorus board, since they're sending those out in some press kits for ryzen.

no idea what the guy is saying but he unboxed the whole thing
>>
>8 SATA ports

Fuck that's a good board
>>
>>59069890
yep I like the intel LANs, they never have failed me.
>>
I'm going to be waiting till Ryzen mobo's with at least 10 sata ports pop up, Asrock should have some extreme editions in the works, they always tend to get the 3x m.2 and/or 10x sata slots mobos going

Probably a data hoarder. Plus it's nice to have the extra SATA ports if you want to get more drives
>>
>>59070314
all independent drives, backup my main on an external though bi-weekly

>>59070360
good guess, and the right guess too,
datahoarder gotta datahoard somehow after all
interesting to note for the m.2 drive

>* If M2_2 is occupied, PCIE5 slot will be disabled
so maybe 11 drives including m2_2?
>>
Are there any m-itx boards being released at launch? I can't find any & it is making me want to cancel my 1700 preorder
>>
>>59070395
you can always get a pcie with like 10 sata slots
>>
i'll consider upgrading my 2690v3 only if they make a high end matx motherboard. Asrock 970m was a fucking joke.
>>
>>59070402
doesn't look like it.. I only see 1 micro ATX even, so probably no itx at all
>>
>>59069815
whats the diff between the 5 and the k5 and the 7? the 7 doesnt even get mentioned anywhere except gigabytes site, which doesnt have the k5... also, on gigabytes site, the 7 and the 5 are identical
>>
>>59070457
I bet they're going to reveal more chipsets in the future, then the ITX boards will come
>>
>>59070420
true, will research - don't need the wifi that board has or the bluetooth, might get a cheaper one and just get a pci card if it costs less
>>
>>59070183
Incidentally that also seems to be the board with the most chokes around the socket. Looking forward to a review that mentions the power infrastructure on thar board. Ugly though
>>
>>59070499
>>59070457
If you had to guess m-itx release date, what would you say?
I think I remember as-rock announcing an itx board, but I can't find any days.
>>
>>59070524
chokes are what "filters" the voltage before it enters the CPU, yea?

>>59070542
before march ends I'd assume.. stuff comes out pretty quickly.
>>
>>59070402

Itx will come later and only Biostar said they were going to release one. AsRock and the rest are waiting to see if Ryzen is a hit.

I'm thinking that one of the high end boards is the best bet. AM4 is likely going to be around for a long time. Buying a quality motherboard now means you have a long-term platform to drop in whatever comes after Ryzen.

You realise that the radiator of a CLC is an ever huger block of metal, yes? Not to mention their high failure rate and pump noise. CLCs are a dumb meme to fleece clueless gaymers who heard water cooling is the bestest and now think that they have it by buying a CLC.
>>

>>
>>59069692
Man, just about all the boards look like ass to me, except the ASUS ones and that one black MSI one (GAMING PRO on that I/O shroud is just tacky). the X370 Pro seems to be the board I'm going to be going with too (wish it had that I/O shroud, I actually do like those), but I really with the Crosshair one was cheaper. What the fuck were they thinking with a pricepoint of 250 shekels? The gaymer shit and RGB really needs a reasonable alternative in the market.
>>
>>59071435
Asus stuff is always overpriced because idiots will buy it just for their name. Although in fairness, their UEFI is the best around. Not worth paying an extra $70 for though, especially when the Crosshair only has one M.2 slot. They'll no doubt release a Formula in six months that's higher-specced anyway.

How has their quality in boards fluctuated over the years? I bought a 990FX Sabertooth like 3 or 4 years ago, and the quality all around was great (still no problems till this day) but some of ASUS' other products seem to have gone down in quality from what I've seen. I put value in ASUS' name because I've had good experience over the years, but their gaymer shit and ever expanding price tag is starting to turn me off. Plus their customer service is ass if god forbid you have to use them.

Their X99 series of motherboards look amazing with no gaymer shit and have good specs to match. I wished for the same with X370, but looks like X370 Pro is as close as I will get.
>>
>>59069692
Sup guys,

I'm also looking at a ryzer build.
I'm looking at virtualization.

So anything with AMD-v (i think it's call'd) will do.
Does amd jews you out like Intel and only some boards/CPU will have virtualization ?

Any general advise about virtualization with amd(and ryzen in specific) ?

Thanks in advance.
>>
>>59071600
No, everything comes with AMD-V.
>>
>>59070822
X370 supports SLI/Crossfire, the B350 doesn't. Both support XFR.

The MSI and Gigabyte boards power phases werent digital based for alot of Z170 boards except in their more expensive offerings. Not sure if thats changed since then. Asus one use all digital just with MOAR PHASES the higher up you go.

Thinking Ill just get the Prime x370 Pro for $220 maplebucks.
>>
>>59070706
I'm getting the black Gigabyte Aorus one.
It looks like the big bit over the rear IO stuff that says AORUS on it is made of plastic, which I assume means "you can remove this relatively easily" so I plan on removing that part, I don't think it's part of the heatsink it's sort of covering.

As for the big heatsink lower on the board with the eagle design on it, I'm hoping that's also a plastic detail that I can just pop off and either just leave open, or if the holes are unsightly then pop in my own logo, or I'll find another heatsink or something. Either way my GPU should be covering that for the most part.

The big thing is there's not a bunch of crazy designs on the board like the AsRock Taichi so I won't have to paint the board (which is where I think you have more propensity to fuck shit up...and they don't appear to be embedded with the RGB elements so they may be easily removable. That's what I'm hoping for anyhow, thinking if I can make a few personal mods it'll look pretty damn nice. That's the hope anyhow.

As far as my opinion on RGB in general, as long as it's not something I'm paying that much for I don't mind. I have some lights in my case and I don't mind it being there, as long as I can always turn it off.

The AsRock one looks really nice and I'd actually buy that one but I'm not a fan of the white accents and the designs on the board, plus I have some brand loyalty to Gigabyte as I've had them since my old Phenom II board and I've never had but one problem which was that old one having a corrupt bios one day (back when dual BIOS was still not common) and it just restored itself and kept chugging on like nothing ever happened...Great boards.

XFR seems to be more of an idea than a feature at the moment. From what I've read it's capped at +100MHz and that's it. More of an extended boost clock. Either it gets unlocked on retail chips, or we have to wait for better bins and/or XFR 2.0

Who else is awaiting 4c/8t or 4c/4t (depending on how poor I am at the time) and an AM4 version of pic related?

I'm hoping the lower core parts can clock to 4.5+ within the 65w TDP for the ultimate slim mITX build. Provided they offer the revised wraith cooler, I wouldn't even have to shell out the extra bucks for a low pro horizontal aftermarket one. The current wraith already matches a 212 evo and the new one should be even better.

Think I'm going to build some cheap Ryzen comps for the kiddos. I was planning on going i3 6100 w/8gb ram w/ asus mobo and an m.2 or 2.5 ssd for primary. I have extra mechanicals laying around. Intel budget build for one is about 205 USD for ram mobo cpu. Ryzen 1200x if available for around 150 USD is clearly a better deal for 30-40 more. Four cores and 8mb cache. I could even go 1100 w/ no xfr clock which saves about 20 USD. AMD seems like a no brainer for budget if things are as they appear.

Oh and used sandy bridge/ivy/haswell mobo/ram/cpu's on ebay are 250-400 easy for used. Haswell or greater seems to be what you need to come near Ryzen so AMD has Intel beat on the used market atm too. Provided they can actually ship them. Fuck glad I put this off.

vrm is not tied to chipset, but it seems most mobo makers are only putting overkill vrm on their x370 boards for now
>>
>>59078727

There might be a consensus from past performance that AMD users are more budget oriented and products are accordingly price-friendly, the superior performance isn't fully established yet on a mainstream level but if it's consistent and without any relevant answer from Intel on a price to perf basis (without considering features) then the higher end offerings will become more mainstream.

AMD was more traditionally tied with extreme overclocking in the past, but I might be wrong because it's more of a niche.

R5 delayed till Q2.
R3 delayed till 2H.

Not suprised. I think its a supply issue. The yields are apperently good, but the trouble AMD is having is too much demand I think. Pre order R7s are pretty much sold out everywhere, why wouldnt AMD sell the higher margin chips first instead of cutting then? They do have stock of R5s and R3s Im sure. This leads to the second problem they got. Motherboard availabiliy I think is limiting them right now. It doesnt look good to sell millions of chips only to have to wait a month for motherboard availability. I think they are waiting for more matx and mitx, as many people would more likely put in an R5 or R3 in one of those.

Just business.

>I have doubts about that.
Good you should have doubts about the stock cooler. AMD back in the day used to bundle a sweet copper HSF. I think they cheaped out around the phenom. I know my phenom 2 cooler is a basic bitch which is fine but not amazing. It's also possible they upped their game again and included a sweet cooler. Don't expect it though imo.
>>
Preordered a ryzen, don't plan on overclocking, do I need a cooler?
I keep seeing people refer to the wraith as stock but it costs extra, which means it's not included in the box, right?
Will the one in the box probably be ok if I don't overclock?
I know there's no sure answer until benchmarks, but I'm on the fence about cancelling my preorder.
It started at $400 for the processor but tax alone brought it up to $430 and I still need a mobo and ram...

>Are more phases better? ASRock has the most phases but I can't buy any of their boards today.

in general, yes.

However the quality of the mosfits matter. Furthermore ASROCK doesn't count mosfits the same as other manufacturer. every other manufacturer counts a mosfit as 1 unit. ASROCK uses a "splitter" technology and counts each individual mosfit as 2 units. So a 12 phase Asrock board will have 6 physical mosfits in it.

The splitter tech that asrock uses is pretty solid, and their mosfits are usually "average" quality, so as long as you're working on an intel style <95TDP cpu their boards are good quality. We don't know yet how hard RYZEN is on the mosfits. Furthermore AMD doesn't count TDP the same as intel. So we don't know how good those asrock boards will "really" be for overclocking, or even how reliable they will be.

Personally on a new platform which I plan to overclock i'd stick to manufacturers who use quality mosfits. Asus and Gigabyte both tend toward high quality mosfits and caps, you'd probably be safe with any of their top end boards at the release of any new product on a new chipset. That said gigabyte has completely alienated me over the years with their shady business practices, so out of just general principle I'm going to go with an Asus for this release.
