Even though you have doors and drapes, the police can go in and see what's up anyway if they have a warrant.

This isn't about hiding your stuff from the public in general, it's about hiding it from the police specifically. The police can get into your bank account with a warrant. If you're committing financial fraud, you won't want them to do that. Literally only people who are committing crimes are trying to hide their things from the police.

What justifies stripping the police of their rights to investigating you with tools such as military-grade encryption? The only thing that enables is crime.

So what you're saying is that search warrants violate your privacy?

You're the one who needs to grow up! No right is absolute, including privacy. You can have walls, but justice must have a way to break in if they have probably cause. You can have encryption, but justice must have backdoors if they have evidence you're a terrorist. That's basic law and it doesn't harm your privacy. Nothing will change for you unless you're a criminal, because only law enforcement can break in and only with a very good reason.

Stay mad.

Look, cunt, the only way to prevent that shit would be to criminalize encryption and it's distribution, so instead of a short list of cases involving encryption, many of which ended with a conviciton anyway, you would have a fuckhuge list of normal people in prison who just wanted to protect their data from thieves and a list of cryptresearchers who thought people should have access to the thing. Not to mention that the algorithms are on fucking wikipedia, and some of them are taught as part of university courses, so what would really happen is that criminals would still use black market encryption software, while normal people would be fucked in the ass by the lack of encryption.

Not much. I haven't done anything illegal, other than trivial things like pirating movies, but I'd still be very worried about what's going on. Especially because I work as a freelance software dev and my livelihood would be at stake if my equipment were seized.

I would turn off my iPhone and iPad so that fingerprint unlock can't be used and so that the temporal keys are removed from the SEP's memory. There wouldn't be much point to this because 1) I live in a police state of a country where I can be legally forced to unlock my devices/provide decryption keys and 2) I am a massive fucking cuck who would probably quickly give in and willingly unlock the devices as soon as they asked.

>The police can get into your bank account with a warrant. If you're committing financial fraud, you won't want them to do that.
I don't want them to do that to my bank account, period. You don't have to be a fraudster not to want people looking at your personal information. And financial records are some of the most personal information out there.

"The police" aren't some perfect idea come to life that magically doles out justice. They're people. I don't want people looking at anything I consider personal. People can't be trusted. Even if they don't personally do anything malicious with the information, they have it, and they're inadvertently judging me (personally, if not legally) based on it. They also have the ability to share it, and even the police are susceptible to theft, social engineering, or just plain talking about it to friends and family to even if they aren't supposed to.

And I'm not saying search warrants are a bad thing. I can understand that there are reasonable demands to breach my privacy should I commit a criminal act. But, just like on the internet, i want my personal information spread to as few sources as possible. The police I don't actually have much problem with, but higher governmental organizations and companies that control 80+% of the internet do not exercise the same reason. They breach our privacy constantly. And if you're American, they also get away with violating your constitutional rights because members of our government is technologically inept and/or our laws. The FBI exploits this regularly to take shortcuts, even if it means peaking in on folks like you and me.

>>
>>59079016
That's like giving the police a master key to every lock on the planet but making them pinky promise cross my heart and hope to die ;^) not to use it unless they have a search warrant.

Again, they're people, just like you and me.

They're going to take everything regardless, no point in saving anything. Better to start over than be caught with anything. Chances are if I'm getting raided, they're looking for excuses to put me away.
>>
>>59079041
Oh and two more things:

Unlike a lock, where the police would be likely to walk in on a family hanging out in the living room, a backdoor to a computer system could be accessed without the vast majority of users ever being made aware that it happened.

And secondly, there's no way to guarantee that a "law-enforcement-only" back door is truly law-enforcement-only. It's another needless risk to my privacy.
